WWYD

Our neighbors are not the best neighbors for many reasons. We try to ignore them the best we can, as long as it's not affecting our property. Lately they've been walking their dogs onto our lawn and letting them do their business there then leaving it there. We have watched them do it elsewhere in our subdivision too. We have tried confronting them about it, but it continues. What else can we do?

Re: WWYD

  • I know that where I live, it is actually a law that you have to pick up your dog's poop, or you will get fined. I would contact your local police department and find out if the same applies in your area. Otherwise, I would consider putting up a fence around your front lawn, if possible. Good luck! That is very frustrating!

This might be considered a 'b*tch move' but I would scoop all the neighbor's dogs poop and leave it in front of their door. Maybe they'll get the hint then. Not only is it just plain rude, it can be unhealthy if you have any pets. Quite a few diseases and parasites can be spread via feces (parvo!, intestinal parasites, etc) and I would be really ticked if my dogs became sick from other dogs pooping in my yard.

  • We do have an HOA, I wonder if they can do anything. The cops are over there enough as it is, that's probably the last thing they will deal with.

My H is at the point of shoveling it all into their mailbox or front door.

  • I think contacting your HOA would be a good idea, and a good place to start. I personally would be tempted to scoop it all up and put in on their doormat, but try your more diplomatic options first before starting a war. If they are that careless to let their dogs do that in the first place, I'd be a little cautious about starting something with them, especially since you say the cops are over there all the time. If your HOA doesn't help, I would really recommend talking to the police department, at least about your options. You don't have to call in to "tattle" on them, but it would be a good idea to see what your rights are so that you don't do anything that could end up turning on you and getting you into trouble. It seems stupid, but just be careful.

  • I would be contacting the police and the HOA. As PP said, alot of places it's a law that you have to scoop your pet's poop.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try the HOA and the police to start with.
