Day 3 without gluten and I'm dying...

Apparently, quitting gluten can sometimes be like quitting an opiate....so the joint pain I've been hoping to reduce has sored, my ribs hurt for no reason, and I'm crabby.  This healthy living is um, great?

Re: Day 3 without gluten and I'm dying...

  • You're the only other person other than myself who had a negative reaction from going gluten free.  When I first went gluten free I was told that I should start feeling better than I did before.  Instead, I would sleep for 10 hours a night, feel like I got no sleep the night before, and got headaches which I only get when sleep deprived.  Now I eat gluten infrequently and feel better when I stay away from it.

I hope you start to feel better soon.

  • It's so weird, right?  I only looked into the negative possible effects after going from feeling decent to crappy so fast.  I'm glad you're doing better - how long did it take to feel normal or better?

  • Unfortunately the experience freaked me out.  So when I realized it was because of gluten I started eating it again because the exhausted feeling made doing my job very difficult.  The feeling didn't go away right away when I started eating gluten again.  I had to wait a few days.  When I quit gluten again, after reducing my gluten intake since the first attempt, the exhausted feeling never came back.  Now when I eat too much gluten I get a sore throat and acid reflux.  I then go cold turkey from gluten and I feel better after two days.
  • Interesting.  I have a long term goal of trying to get of arthritis meds by naturally reducing inflammation, so I'm going to tough it out for a while and see my doc later this month to see if it's worth the trouble.  Thanks for sharing.....it freaked me out too.
  • Gluten is addictive.  Going off of it is like going off of caffeine or anything else like that.  Your body can react with side effects.  It is definitely a hard thing to do.  It will only make you feel better if you have a sensitivity to gluten too. My GI doctor had me try everything before trying gluten because it's hard to give up.
