need advice on rugs, please!

We have a long skinny living room with two sitting areas, and then an archway to our dining room, so three areas linked together arranged in an L shape. The living room is painted a different color from the dining room, but they coordinate (IMHO). We have hardwood floors throughout the space, with a crappy little rug in the tv area and nothing in the other spaces.

DD will be crawling any second, so I'd really like to get some nice rugs down, but can't decide what to do - would you get three of the same rug for the spaces, or 2 of the same for the living room and something else for the dining room....? Advice please!

Re: need advice on rugs, please!

  • I would get two for the living room and one for the dining room.  Coordination is nice but fully matched would seem very Stepford to me.

If the baby/puppy are as young as their pictures in your bio, I would get nice-but-not-expensive rugs until they finish diapers/paper training.

  • I would get two matching for the living room to tie it together and not have the eye bouncing around and I would get a third in a different, but coordinating color theme.
  • Thanks, I think that's what we'll do! The baby is that young but the dog is actually 2 and housebroken haha! We try to keep blankets/playmats down for LO (for extra cushion and to keep her on relatively dog-hair free surfaces), so hopefully those will protect  rugs from any blowouts!
