Anyone here have an upper endoscopy or...
... a sigmoidoscopy? I am scheduled to have both at the same time next friday. They are putting me asleep since they are during both at once. How long did it take? Did you go back to work the next day? This is all new to me an I'm a little freaked out.

Re: Anyone here have an upper endoscopy or...
I had the same two tests done to me two years ago and I was also put under full anesthesia. I don't remember how long it took; maybe 2 hours. I worked the day before and the day after the procedure. The worst part is preping for it since you have to purposefully give yourself the runs. Once they put put you under things are fine after that. My throat did hurt a little afterwards and it took an hour to fully recover from the anesthesia. That's why they don't let you drive afterwards. But there's nothing really to get freaked out about. It's not surgery.
This makes me feel a little better. They aren't sure what exactly is wrong with me (nausea after eating, constant stomach cramps and burning, distended stomach, stomach sensitivity - she barely touches it and it hurts), but they've got a few ideas. My gut feeling (ha!) is GERDs. I'm burping like a crazy person.
I usually get pretty loopy from anesthetics. First time I was under for getting my wisdom teeth out, I was 15, I told my parents I would drive our '92 Camaro home. (At the time, we had a '98 Buick) Then, got mad cause I could only find keys to a Buick. Ha! I'm not looking forward to the prep, but who knows! Maybe I'll lose some weight in the process.
This sucks.
I had similar symptoms which why I had to get both done. I was nauseas after eating anything, even water, food would just sit in my stomach for hours, I had acid reflux after all meals, and I lost twenty pounds in two months because food would go right through me. I was also burping a lot.
After the test they found nothing (no colitis, no celiac) other than I had GERD which I had for years so that wasn't helpful. I ended up seeing a holistic doctor who advised me to stay away from dairy which was very helpful. Also minimizing eating baked goods helped.
If they don't find anything I would suggested that you try these things along with eating only cooked foods. Salads are no good. As for the burping eating apples makes it worse and so does stress.
I had both done, and it wasnt bad, the prep is the worst. Did you try going gluten free/?? Stay away from wheat, rye, and Barley. See if that helps you. Also, ask them to check to see if you have celiac disease or wheat intolerance. Sometimes you can have reactions from gluten containing foods.
Hope that helps
