Your thoughts on Olympic Uniforms being made in China

What are your thoughts?

My initial thought was, ok, so? isn't everything else made in china? I really would have loved a reporter ask the congress men/women, so where is your clothes that you are wearing made in?

Yes, it would have been nice if they were made in USA, but I don't think RL makes anything in US any more. They are a business, and like any other business, they look at bottom line.

Re: Your thoughts on Olympic Uniforms being made in China

  • I've been trying to buy more USA made products over the past few years and it's difficult. Shoes and electrical lights (I know, odd combination!) are probably two of the more difficult items to find. The vast majority of my Kate Spade, Coach, and Cole Haan pieces are made in China and it is frustrating to know sometimes that I spent $200+ on some of those pieces and they came from China.  I'm starting to buy more smaller independent designer pieces because they're made here in the USA.

I get why Congress was upset to find that the clothes were coming from China, but at the same time Congress isn't paying for the clothes so I'm not sure they can say, "buy from the USA!"

Allen Edmonds is premier brand of men's shoes and they are all made in the USA.  They're actually a favorite of any politician that way they can immediately respond to a reporter, "my shoes are made in the USA."  I only know this because my husband wears them and rubs it in my face from time to time that his shoes are made in the USA. Punk!

  • Maybe their shoes, but I doubt every clothing item in their closet or what they have on is made in US.

I do check the label, too. And I totally get you what you mean by getting upset when I see something designer is made in China.

  • For some reason, I'm MORE upset that there is a giant Ralph Lauren logo on all of it.  Why on earth is our Olympic Committee advertising for RL?  Have him design the clothes, get some publicity for it--that's one thing, but the big embroidered Polo guy?  Why not just put everyone in these:
