Car accident

I've had an interesting morning today. Leaving my corporate meeting this morning a trash truck hit me and tore the back bumper off my car. I didn't mention it on here but 3 months ago the car I almos had paid off broke down. The repairs were higher than what I owed on the car and historically the maintenance work was only going to get worse. That was a week after we found out I was pg and knew I would need a reliable car. So I bought a new one. My point in telling you this is YESTERDAY I put the plates on it. (this is the 2nd time I've registered a new car to have it hit within a day...last time it was a dump truck..)

So anyway when I called the police i told them im pregnant so they ended up sending the fire department (?) and ambulance. When they were there I felt fine, shaken up but ok. We were there forever waiting for the police to respond that are in that jurisdiction bc the ones that showed up couldn't do anything. Anyway, while waitin I did start getting crampy and little pinches of pain. I called the OB which the parametic said to do anyway. They saw me at 135.

They wanted to check the placenta. It was about a 10-15 min ultra sound. Everything looked good according to the tech and the dr said so as well after the tech saw me. I still have some minor cramping, a headache and am really tired. We were only driving about 20 mph so luckily it wasn't too bad.

The only exciting part today was being able to see our baby. I can't believe how much bigger he/she is!!!! I am 17w and last saw baby at 9w. It was amazing. She printed off 4 more pictures for us and we got to watch the baby move all around. He was so active. Little bugger wouldn't open his/her legs either do the tech couldnt figure out the sex lol. I swear I saw a scrotum at first but then each other angle it looked like a girl (the three white lines) however the tech couldnt figure it out so what the hell do I know lol. The important thing is the baby and placenta looked good.

The tech did say something about having a low placenta that is close to my cervix. Actually said I might have spotting at some point? She said at the 20 week apt they it might be different. The dr didn say anything though so I'm not going to worry (or Sr. Google it)

Now I just have to go about getting my car fixed. Ugh.

Re: Car accident

  • Sorry things aren't going well for your cars lately!  I'm so glad you're okay.  I'm sure it was extra scary since you're pregnant and want to make sure baby is okay, as well as you.   That is a nice bonus out of all of this that you got to see baby!  Hope you continue to feel well.

  • Wow!! I'm glad you and baby are okay! Hopefully they can get you back on the road quickly.

I had a low lying placenta with this pregnancy and in the 6 weeks between my ultrasounds it had moved up and completely corrected itself. Your placenta tends to move up as your uterus grows, so it's rare that it actually causes issues.

Ditto all of this exactly! I had marginal placenta previa and it corrected itself. I was on pelvic rest for ten weeks.

Yup, all this. I had marginal previa from my ultrasounds at 13 weeks to 29 weeks. It corrected itself and I was never on pelvic rest, but was told to call if I had any bleeding and would then be placed on pelvic rest.

Thanks for all of the replies. It was a long day for sure.

As for the quotes above, wow. I had never even heard of this before. Im happy to hear that it seems to fix itself. I hope that is the case with me. Thanks for letting me know this. I guess at my next apt we'll see how it looks :)

Once I can figure out how to edit the ultrasound pictures on my phone I'll share some. But right now they haven full name and drs office on them lol

  • Sorry to hear what happened- but I'm glad you and baby are doing well. I'm sure it was nice to get to see that LO though :)

lol yeah and after I thought about it this wsa the THIRD time a new car of mine has been hit. (My step-dad works at a dealership so I have had a ridiculous slew of new cars) The one I forgot was in high school. My DH (who was my bf then) was driving, I was in passenger seat and I had JUST put plates on the car. Dumb girl makes a left turn where it was illlegal and we were in the far left lane. We had no idea she was turning out and SMASHED the car! Mine was a Saturn so it just crumpled the plastic siding but she was in an old metal car and it wouldn't even start up after that lol.

Maybe I should stay away from new cars..
