Do you bring your small dog with you?
If you have a small dog, do you put him in a carrier and bring him wth to the store, running errands, etc?
What kind of places do you bring them, which places are off limits?
How often do you bring them with you?
Have you ever been told you can't have your dog in a place, or other people say things to you?
What kind of carrier do you have?
Re: Do you bring your small dog with you?
No small dog here, but most stores in my area prohibit animals in their store, the exception being pet-supply stores.
I would think the dog would be more comfortable and less stressed staying at home.
Personally I am not a fan of bring small dogs into places were bigger dogs are not allowed but thats just me. Although to be honest it's because I would love to take my pups everywhere too :-)
That said I think any type of food store is off limits. Some lady had her dog in a cart in the grocery store the other day and the manager had a fit and kicked her out because it was in violation of the heath code.
True but there seems to be this double standard in some places that if its being carried or in a purse no one says anything but if I brought in my 55 pound dog I would be told we had to leave. :-(
Service dog--->goes everywhere
Non-service dog ---> goes to pet supply stores, dog parks, or anywhere else with signage saying all dogs are welcome.
Have you seen my monkey?
This...
Sadly that is not always the case. There are a lot of hotels and such that only allow dogs under a certain weight. Boo.
We are not a small dog owner, but we take our english bulldog anywhere he is allowed. I would hope a small dog owner would do the same. I find myself a little annoyed when I see a dog in a bag when I know they are not allowed to be there.
NOLA is pretty dog friendly. We live in a high rise in the city and walk everywhere. Often we walk him and take care of errands at the same time. He goes to bars, restaurants with outside seating, festivals, banks and a few shops that allow him. Those shops tend to be small independently owned places. We simple just ask if it's okay for him to come in and most happily say 'of course'.
Food stores are off limits to us. It's something we would never consider.
NO. I don't take my dog, big or small places they are not allowed to go. I don't sneak them into non dog friendly hotels, stores, etc.
I do take my dog to places that she is allowed to go like the pet store and the dog park, stores, etc that specifically welcome dogs.
That being said, sometimes it easier to leave her at home and run a bunch of errands. Especially, when it gets warm out, I prefer to leave her at home in the a/c anyway.
No. With the exception of service dogs, dogs aren't allowed unless there is a sign saying that they are.
I take my dog with me when I know I'll be outside only. Most places only allow service animals inside and to be honest it is disturbing to see dogs in the grocery store or a restaurant. Last week I was enjoying a patio lunch with my sister and the family at the table beside us had their dog with them and were feeding it from their plates on the table. They give animal lovers a bad reputation and I don't want to fall into that category.
I do take him on vacation and there are lots of hotels that are pet friendly again, however, he stays in the hotel unless were are doing outside activities.
I have this carrier and it works great.
We own a Chihuahua (just over two pounds), he is extremely people and pet friendly but out of concern for his safety and the public's well-being we mainly keep him at home when we go out. We love him dearly and do take him to the park and pet stores but it's unfair to big dog owners when we can take him somewhere and they can't take their partner. I do stay at home so I get to spend quality time with him all day, everyday so I'm sure that makes a difference. We also live in St. Louis so we're never too awfully far from home if we do take him out and need to bring him back home for whatever reason.
To address the carrier question he has a blanket that we use exclusively for travel - along with his harness and leash we bring a travel bag with toys, treats, water and more all depending on the duration of the trip. Just because he's small doesn't mean he likes to be carried all the time - he loves his walks out and about with us.
In a nutshell - we take him where it's practical and legal with a few things to keep him occupied. Hope this helps
