Non-Stick or Stainless?

I'm looking for a good set of pots and pans. Anyone know if this non-stick set would be a good purchase. I plan on putting them to regular use and like the idea of easy cleanup but am worried about the finish coming off. Help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Non-Stick or Stainless?

  • I just got rid of my nonstick for stainless & i'm so glad I did. The stainless cooks so much better for me & I haven't had any problems with cleaning them. Actually, I can put them in the dishwasher, whereas nonstick should not go in there. I did keep 1 nonstick pan for eggs & such.

  • I have had both and much prefer my stainless steel cookware set to the non-stick. I love my Cuisinart cookware and have one similar to this set (which is on sale). It's easy to clean using a stainless steel Chore Boy scrubber. The frying pans can be tricky but are definitely good for some things that you want crispy. However, I do like to use non-stick frying pans so I can reduce the amount of oil. Tip: after learning the hard way, don't use Pam on your non-stick frying pans. Over time it ruins the finish. Instead, I have a silicone pastry brush I use to lightly coat the pan before frying. Lots of choices out there. Good luck deciding and Happy Cooking!

  • I finally jumped to stainless almost 2 years ago and wouldn't go back for anything.

I got this set at BBB Calphalon Contemporary Stainless 13-Piece Cookware Set
Which came with this dutch oven as a bonus which I use for frying Calphalon Unison Sear Nonstick 5-Quart Dutch Oven Set and a gift card $50 or something. Almost 2 years later and they clean up like new with a little Bar Keepers friend when needed. I love the brushed finish on the outside because fingerprints really make me cranky.

And then I got these 2 Calphalon Unison Nonstick 8-Inch and 10-Inch Omelette Pan Set for when H cooks and also for eggs. They say dishwasher safe and I have put them in there a couple times, but would recommend handwashing which is super simple after a quick soak.

Big tip is wait until the pans and pots fully cool before rinsing them. Especially on the nonstick pans to prevent warping. Not related, but I had to return the 12 inch Calphalon Unison pan 2 times due to warping. I ended up getting the 2 pack above instead and like those better.

  • I love my stainless steel cookware. Non-stick is good for frying pans and bakeware though.

  • Stainless hands down!

When I first got married everyone bought me non-stick... and well- I wasn't a good cook and within the first six months the finish was coming off into the food!  I am happy to report I can cook now, but I know my stainless will last me forever!

I agree with the previous posters... I LOVE my stainless.  Still have 2 different sized frying pans that are nonstick for eggs and such though.  Just get a good cleaner, like Barkeeper's Friend... I've never had any trouble cleaning them that Barkeeper's couldn't fix easily.

  • I bought a Calphalon Unison set (non-stick) when I worked at Bed Bath and Beyond.  I like it a lot, but I wish I would've gone stainless.  I've been thinking about buying another set and giving mine to my mom.  The Cuisinart set you included a link to may last you for a couple of years, but I would save up for a little while and get a better set that will last you for years and years.
  • ...and if you buy at BBB, sign up for th 20% coupons!  So awesome.  They take them expired.
