I've been on BC for 2m (hopefully for only another month or two) and my skin is breaking out terribly (literally, yesterday 2 more pimples popped up). I've tried Ortho-Cyclen (Mononessa), now I'm using Loestrin 24. The only other pills the Dr.'s office will prescribe are: Lo-Ovral, Ortho Novum-135, and Femcon. Anyone use any of these and have good results? My confidence has really taken a hit because of this. I think I'm going to call the dermatologist on Monday, but not sure what exactly he'll be able to do with trying to get pg in August/September. I've been taking a scipt he gave me a couple of years ago for acne (that actually just expired 2m ago so I'm sure it's still good) and it hasn't been helping either.
I wash every morning and every evening with Cetaphil and then use the Cetaphil moisturizer. Normally this works wonderfully but it's not helping since starting the BCP's. I absolutely cannot go off of the BCP's because I'll be doing an IVF cycle so everything has to be manipulated by the docs.
Re: Birth control and acne help please
Does your IVF doctor know you're self-medicating?
If you're TTC, I would look for gentle, natural acne treatments. Masks with essential oils like lavender worked for me.
My doc and derm have little scruffels on what mainly causes acne and what doesn't. My derm says ALL acne is caused by unbalanced hormones. Salacylic acid (sp?) is mainly used to help with swelling on the surface (and that insane burning!) and benzoyl peroxide is mainly for sanatizing the surface of the skin. (I use both scripts: Atralin and Acanya) And seeing how my acne is DEEP under my skin, I am on an antibiotic (long term-yes i there are downsides to this but nothing else helps)
Doxycyline is really good to help reduce inflammation. Especially mine because it is mainly on the lower jaw/chin,cheek-rarely area, which I am told can also be a form of adult rosaca.(who would have thought) So find out if an antibotic is right for you. I have read a ton of peer reviewed articles on antibiotics for acne and they do help. So talk to your doc. If you do get put on one make sure you are a lot of probitoitcs (yogart for example).. if you don't eat enough it canr eally unpset your bowel system and turn your poo green... (not good when your are on long term antibiotics)
Please forgive my spelling... I am working midnights and my shift is over in exactally 23 min and 49 seconds
You should look into your diet. I know that when I eat too much dairy, especially chesse, my skin breaks out. My sister, who has acne problems way worse than mine, said that reducing the amount of processed foods in her diet helped her out. Her skin's not 100% clear but it's better than what it used to be.
Stress is another issue. It messes with your hormones and thus affects your skin. I'm sure TTC is stressful.
Thanks for the suggestions. I took my last BCP on Friday, hopefully that will help. Unfortunately I've read that some people experience acne breakouts as a SE of Lupron, hopefully I'll get a break on that front. I know it may be vein, and I can handle when I have 1, but when I literally have them piled on one another under both corners of my mouth, it really sucks.
