Hi!  I have a 12.5 yr old golden who is being tested for a hypothyroid, does anyone has experience with this?  What is the treatment like?  The vet thinks this may be accounting for his larynyx problems (not opening and closing properly) since they cant seem to find anything else. Thanks

It's not uncommon for dogs to be hypothryoid, signs include poor hair coat and being overweight even though they do not receive a large amount of food or treats during the day. The treatment is typically one pill given twice daily for the rest of their life. Their levels should be monitored yearly for any changes but other than that it's a fairly easy diagnosis to manage. We see quite a few dogs that are hypothyroid and they do great on the treatment.
