Did anyone just mail the information in to the SS office or did everyone go in?!

I went in to do my name change.
I didn't want to have to mail in our marriage license and hope that they got it back in time (or at all) to change my name at other places. It took about 5 minutes for them to do at the SS office I went to...they just took a copy of the original license and I had the new card in about 5 days.

I didn't even know you could mail in, maybe you can't in my state?
Either way, after my experience with the post office "misplacing" so many wedding related items I mailed (STDs, invites, RSVPs) I don't really trust mailing those sort of documents.
I went in and it took 5 minutes. Seriously, they called my number up to the counter before I had even finished filling out the application!
umm I had the same thought! Why is it easier to change my name legally than it is it to change it at the DMV, bank, credit cards, etc.?
I went in and it was quick and painless. Like others I don't feel comfortable mailing important documents/ID.
I had the same thought as the last few posts...to change my BCmedical card etc, they just looked at my marraige liscence (no photo ID at all), but to change my name on my library card I needed photo ID, marraige liscence, and a secondary piece of government ID....
My Blog:Through My Eyes
I had a fairly easy time doing all of my stuff. I know Provincial Health Card and Passport are up next though, and in Saskatchewan it's quite the form I have to fill out complete with photocopy of my marriage certificate.
My favorite was that i'm a Commissioner for Oaths for my Province, I work in a law office as an assistant, it basically means people can swear documents to be true in front of me. Fairly official/important thing... I called the office to find out what I needed to do to change my name on it.. and she goes.. "Uhm... just cross your name out on your certificate and print in what you're new name is, and we'll send you a new certificate" i'm thinking.. you don't want some proof of something? Really? Just cross it out? Some stuff is beyond easy.. some they seem to want your first born child...
What form of ID did you mail with it? I live in a huge city and I heard nightmares of SS office so Im trying to avoid ha!
I went in to the office over a month ago, but my card hasn't come. I called SSA and they said it was changed in the system, my card must have gotten lost in the mail. So, now I need to go back in. Ugh.
I didn't know about the mail-in option, but if I had, I would have taken that. I was there an hour or two.
We live outside Denver, in Parker, and I went to the SS office in Littleton, I KNEW I didn't want to go to the one in downtown Denver haha the wait in Littleton was about 20-30 minutes. Maybe there's an office in a suburb near the big city you live in? It's worth looking into.

Seriously... Littleton? Where is that one? I work down near Park Meadows and live up near Golden and have been trying to figure out what office to go to now that I theoretically have a few minutes.
I need to get it changed before my new ID card for my new office in the next couple of weeks.
The application which came with my marriage license and the marriage license itself. The marriage license came back in under a week with a letter that it was processing and a few days later I had my new card.
I also went in. A 20 minute wait and it was easily done in 5 minutes. I believe the DMV was longer. I too can't figure out why changing my name on my library card or on my car loan or banks took longer with more paperwork!
Honestly though the one I hated the most was Paypal! I wish I was kidding but they want more information than either my car loan or my banks! I said screw that and just opened a new account. What crap.
