Running out of steam...help please
First off let me say hello I'm new to this board. So I've seem to have lost any all motivation for working out. I use to be a dancer. I did all sorts of dance, modern, hip hop, break dance, Spanish dances too. When I did dance I was a work out junkie. But I got married, quit dance and moved to a new base. I've bought workout dvds, had a gym membership even jumped on the zumba bandwagon. I always seem to start strong but half way through I just stop and get bored. My husband disagrees with me and thinks I look great but I know what I use to look like and I'm starting to get a wee bit jiggly in some areas. Anyone have any suggestions on what I could do?
Re: Running out of steam...help please
I hear ya! I am just getting out of that rut right now, but it's all about mindset, if I force myself to do the gym/workouts I don't put 100% into it, and I obviously don't get 100% back than I get frustrated and quit, so I try to make it fun, and if I'm not into working out than I won't, the less stress I put on myself to do it the more fun I have and in return the more I want to do it. It seems like dancing is a lot of fun for you, maybe you can find a local club or dance classes, or maybe start up dance classes yourself and teach people your talent.
The same thing is happening to me. I got married and now I don't feel like working out. Usually it's because I have a million other things to do, but sometimes it's just because working out is simply not fun anymore.
The advice I received is to set up a goal and reward program for yourself. If you finish three weeks of Zumba, you should get a pedicure. If you run three nights a week and lift for two, you can buy Us Weekly and find a pool.
I've also cut my workouts back a little, and even though I'm not seeing the results I had before, at least I'm getting some sort of exercise. I have been power walking for an hour and doing Yoga.
The biggest thing that helped me, though, is finding a workout buddy. It sounds like you're a military wife, so maybe finding another wife who is interested in working out would help you a lot. If you know someone is waiting for you to pick her up to go to a workout class, you'll probably stick with it.
Good luck! Let me know how you're doing. It makes me feel better that someone else is going through the same thing!
I've never posted here before, I mostly post on The Bump, but their H&F board is pretty much dead.
Anyway, I'm jumping in because I think you might like Physique 57. It's a workout video I do, which incorporates dance moves with some weight work. A lot of it uses your body as resistance. I gained a ridiculous amount of weight when pregnant with DS - 66 pounds - yikes! I am 5'2" and was 120 before pregnancy. I got back to my pre-preg weight after 7 months and am now 13 pounds below my pre-preg weight. I don't have a muffin, even after having a c-section and I attribute that to Physique. I
It moves fast so there is some cardio, but I run 3x/week for real cardio.
Thanks!!! I was really determined but I know anyone can do it!
You can order the video from Amazon
I live in Manhattan so I just went down to their studio and picked it up. There are a few different versions. I have the Classic 57 Minute Workout one. You will need a few things, a yoga mat, playground ball and weights. They say two sets, heavy and light. I started with just 5 pound weights for both sets. I now do the heavy set with a 6 pound weight and use the 5 pounders for the light set. You also need a chair (I use one of our dining room chairs) to simulate a ballet barre.
