And, do you like them?
We have flex hours at work, so I've always worked 7:30-3:30 but lately I've been thinking it would be nicer to have some more time in the morning so I've been debating switching them up.
Re: What hours do you work?
I'm a teacher so obviously I have more "set" hours, but I do prefer to go in earlier before school to get things done to then hopefully be able to leave earlier in the afternoon.
Do you always have to work the same hours? Can you change them for a day or a short amount of time, like can you say the day before, I'm going to work 9-5 tomorrow instead of 7:30?
I have a flex schedule so I can work whatever hours I want as long as I have 40 in for the week. I usually work 8:30 to 5 because I can't drop Parker off until 7:30, then I have a 45 minute drive to work.
Before Parker I worked 7:30-4. I loved having more of my afternoon. During our busy time I work 6-5. If I had my choice I would work 6:30 - 3
Not working until 8:30 is nice because it allows me time in the morning to get to the gym. Plus the gym at 5am is way quiter than the gym at 5pm!
You get to the gym by 5am!? Good job!
I work Friday 8:45am - 7:00pm and Fridays I have an hour drive to work. Saturday - Tuesday I work 9:50am - 7:00pm. I HATE my work hours. And I'm commission only and lately I figured out im making minimum wage.

This is pretty much me. I get to school around 7 (I don't start until 8:15) but I'm out the door by 3/3:10 the latest. I like getting in early to do work and leave as soon as possible at the end of the day.
T/TH/F I work in the office 8-5. Then I work another 3 hours from home on any of my days off. Before I had Maggie, during busy season I would come in the office between 530am-6am. I loved being here early instead of staying late. Now I have a hard time doing that unless someone else can drop Mags off at daycare. A lot of times I leave work at 5 go home, eat, spend some time with Mags, then work until 11pm. Not fun, but busy season never is.
I am not sure I could ever go back full time. I love having more time at home, not so much the decreased paycheck though
Also, being a teacher, I have to be there for the actual teaching-school hours 8-3:10 (yes, Im jealous of the elementary teachers like my sister who have shorter days, hehe). After teaching the same subject for 4 years, I can pretty much get there at 7:15 and leave by 3:30 and do the rest at home in the evenings. It worked well when I was single because I could just work on my laptop while eating dinner or watching a movie or whatever but this year, I'll need to figure out how to get it all done so I can give J quality time. My preference will be to try and leave by 4... so work maybe 7-4 or 5 depending on whatever needs are going on... and to limit my weekend work.
That being said to respond to your circumstances... I dont think I could do much earlier than 7 but I do prefer to get home in the afternoons. When I do have to work until 5 or even 6 during buys times I totally feel like my day is gone by the time I get home. You are already into dinner hour and everything. I also like leaving work while it's still sunlight.... something psychological about that.
Can you make it so one or two days a week you do a later shift? I always wish I could go in at like 9 on Mondays to get the extra sleep, hehe...
I usually work Monday-Friday from 9am-6pm with a one hour lunch from 1-2. I'm salary so if I need to leave early now and then it's fine b/c during Registration (twice a year) and Add/Drop (twice a year) I easily do several 10-12 hour days. I'll be working a Saturday in August for the day our new students move in, so the boss will let me leave early a different day, or take a day off if I want.
In the summer time I don't mind working as late b/c it doesn't get dark until 8 or 9, but in the winter it's awful. I get up in the morning when it's just getting light out, and I get out of work when it's already been dark for a few hours. It's so depressing.
I have an odd schedule because I wear too many hats.
Normally I get to school at 7:45 to teach until 2:30. Then I get the room ready after school and have the following after school schedule:
Mondays: technology committee meeting or tutoring until 5ish, then off to the gym until around 6:30.
Tuesdays/Thursdays: I work in my classroom until 4, then I tutor from 4:30-6:30. I will say that on these days this family is a godsend to me. While we're working on her projects & homework, they always give us desserts, chips, and tea/vanilla coke! Then when we're done at around 6:45 they invite me to stay for dinner. They even fix DH a plate for me to take home to him so I don't have to cook on those nights since it's such a long day for me!
Wed/Friday I usually stay at school until 4, then go to the gym.
DH has worse hours than me. He wakes up at 4:30 to leave for work by 5, gets there at 7, works until 5:00, then he's on the road until 8 or 8:30. We don't eat dinner together until late, which I hate.
I despise my work hours... so thank goodness I'm on summer vacation right now.
I completely understand this. I feel the same way during the winter. I've worked places that I woke up in the morning and it was dark, went to work and left when it was dark. It makes me depressed too.

I work 9-6. It's not awesome-I did like my old job because it was 7:30-4 in the summers, and 8-4:30 in the fall-spring.
All in all it's not bad, I actually have time to get ready in the morning.
I pretty much can choose my own hours. For the past 6 months or so, I've been working from about 10-5.
I do like my hours because it gives me plenty of time to wake up (I support Zoey Deschenel's theory that people shouldn't speak before 10 but should just hug because waking up is hard), exercise, and possible do a bit of house work.
I've been thinking i might like to switch to 9-4 or 9:30-4:30... That way I have more time in the afternoon a tiny bit more time in the afternoon.
I always forget how many teachers we have here!
I need to stick to some sort of schedule, but could probably do different hours for different days. I was thinking of doing 8:30-4:30 the days I come into the office. Not having to leave the house until 7:50 sounds amazing.
Kate's Recipe Box || Relatively Bookish
With BB on the way I cut down to 30 hours a week...at least through the first tri (only 3 more weeks..HOLLLLY CRAP! Or 4 depending on how you view first tri)
My work hours depend on the week.
One week I work Monday-Friday 9-3
The next week I work Monday-Wednesday 9-3, then off Thursday, Friday 9-3 and Saturday 9-2
Monday - Thursday: 7:30 - 4:30 (with 45 min lunch)
Friday: 7:30 - 3:30 (with 1 hr lunch)
Right now is busy season so we are working overtime and those hours are 6:30am-5:30pm (4:30pm on Fridays).
Forgot to add my thoughts on them. I don't mind these hours. I like getting off work before 5 but getting to work at 7:30 is rough sometimes. I always kid with Ryan and tell him that I'm going to go down to part time so I have time to clean and work out before/after work and still have the evenings free. That would be perfect, in my opinion.
Monday 4am - 430 PM, Thursday 4 AM - 330 PM, Saturday 4 Am - 230 PM.
I hate them and like them. I like them because I'm able to still be considered full time and only have to work 3 days a week
I hate them because waking up at 3 AM is AWFUL. But it's worth it.

Right now -
7:45 - 12:15 at the school, teaching post-K summer school
1 - 6:30 at the day care center - Summer camp
I'm exhausted by the end of the day and I still have a speed demon to chase around the house. BUT I need the teaching experience.
Yet another teacher here...
I work from 8:00 - 3:00. I definitely do not get there early, unless absolutely necessary. I can barely get there by 8:00 as it is! Thankfully my principal doesn't overload us with paperwork and has planning time built into our day. I can be out of there right at 3:00, although a couple days I usually stay till 3:30 or 4:00 (maybe 5:00 at the very latest once a week if I don't get lesson plans done). I'm happy with my hours.
My first 5 years teaching in public school down here my hours were 7:00 - 2:30. (The middle and high school started later). Waaaay to early, especially when I had a 35 or 50 minute commute. Why do little kids need to be at school by 7:30???
I worked 2nd shift (3:00 - 11:00) the first year and half out of college. I actually liked it, as I always felt like I had plenty of time to get errands done in the morning or go to the gym. I could stay up late after work if I wanted. I could get up as early or as late in the mornings as I wanted, depending what I had going on.
