Pendant question

I have a hanging pendant that I love, and I thought when I ordered it that it was brushed bronze or rubbed bronze.  Turns out it's actually brushed steel.  I love the look of it, not thrilled with the color.  Can't return it.

What's the best way to give it a make-over and change the color to the rubbed bronze or make it more rustic looking?

Here's what it looks like now:

Re: Pendant question

  • spray paint that sucker!

Some metallic colors look better and more realistic than others.  Oil Rubbed Bronze is one that looks particularly good.  I have used bronze before as well and liked it too.  Since the lamp isn't going to be handled much, you could just spray paint it as is.  However, personally if I really wanted it to last, I would do the following:

    1. gently scuff surface with a scotch bright pad

    2. spray with grey primer

    3. spray with ORB (or other finish) several light coats

    4. spray a final coat of clear over top to finish

if you do all 4 steps it should be quite durable.  I sprayed my bedroom and other door knobs that way over 3 years ago and they are still going strong with no chips or scratches.

  • Thanks, I'm going to try that!
