Mandy - I just saw in your reply to MrsAmers you mentioned being in Norwin? My DH has a job offer to work for Excela Health in the Norwin/North Huntingdon facility and I was wondering about the commute. We come from the north so it would be different but how do you find it into town & out? What times do you work & how long is the commute? Thanks!

Re: Mandy -- Norwin?
Sorry for butting in, but I also live in the Norwin school district.
If you are coming from the North, do you have easy turnpike access? We've made the trip to Shaler and to Cranberry a few times during rush hour. We take the turnpike and it takes about 30-35 minutes from the Irwin exit to the Butler Valley exit. Not too bad. The new Excela center is right off of the turnpike.
If you tried to do parkways, it woudl be a real nightmare.
That was my thought, too, Sheila. Your DH might be best jumping on the Turnpike at Cranberry and going out that way - well, at least for coming home at night. (I'm not sure how bad the Parkway East going out to Monroeville is in the mornings, but the North to downtown is not terrible before 7am.)
ETA: I worked with a colleague at Passavant who lived in Murrysville and he would take the turnpike to Cranberry (when he had to be at that campus) or Butler Valley when he had to be at McCandless. With EZPass, you can get there so much faster!
My three sons!
Agreed, if you're close to the turnpike I'd use that. It would take about the same amount of time during rush hour as it takes during a non-peak time. Our turnpike exit doesn't get very congested and it's close to the exit. I don't know how far North you are, but we were just in Cranberry at Fun Fore All for a party a few weeks ago, and it took close to an hour taking the turnpike (although we live a few minutes further from the exit).
I do commute to downtown and it takes me about 45 minutes to an hour during rush hour, depending on traffic. I have to be at work at 8:30 and I leave for home at 5:30.
When my dad had his store in Gibsonia(we were on 910), our sales & finance managers both lived in Norwin. They both took the turnpike, they said it was by far the easiest way.
thanks all - good to know. He's so up in the air right now - the dr he loves to work with took a job with Excela b/c he moved to Latrobe so John can go with him for not that much more money which would probably be eaten up in higher gas costs, or stay at UPMC with a dr he may not like or work he may not enjoy. So while he may be happier with the work at Excela the commute may make him (and me) miserable.
Mandy - do you go Rte 30 from Wilkinsburg? Is that any quicker than turnpike to Irwin?
I've gone the turnpike when I have to go to Greensburg but it always seems longer b/c of the mileage. But with the tunnel traffic it may be the best bet coming home at least. In the am he would have to be there so early traffic may not matter.

I do the same as Mandy most of the time, since we live in Irwin too!the only traffic I ever hit when we have to go in town is at the tunnels
I agree with both. I live in Irwin and commute to Pittsburgh by Rt 30. On the weekends we visit my family in Cranberry and always take the turnpike.
