Is this blouse appropriate for an interview?

I have an interview for a customer service position at a call center.  Is this blouse appropriate?  http://www.avenue.com/clothing/Striped-Tie-Sleeve-Faux-One-Shoulder-Blouse.aspx?PfId=303477&DeptId=20248&ProductTypeId=1

I was going to wear it with black pants and plack flat shoes.

  • I would say it was okay if it had two sleeves. But like that, you should probably wear a cardigan or jacket over it. if you get the job you would be able to judge whether it was okay for day to day wear, but I wouldn't risk it for an interview.

This exactly.  While that might be all right to wear in the office, I might pick something else to wear for the interview.

  • If you were wearing a jacket over it, yes. I would not go sleeveless (or one sleeved) to an interview.

  • Two sleeves or a jacket seems to me to be safest for an interview.

  • Also, a brightly colored cardigan would be cute if you pull the bow out on top of it.

I know call centers are not suit-jacket types of places, but that would cover up the arm and add some color to an otherwise black and white outfit.

  • I always wear blazers or cardigans to interviews regardless of the weather. So I would say it's ok as long as you wear a cover over it. Otherwise choose a shirt with two sleeves. It just makes you look more professional.

I have interviewed many people and I cannot tell you how much even such a thing as the way a person dresses can affect how I remember them. Case in point: the girl who interviewed with me a year ago and wore a lacey strap tee that reminded me of lingerie and was two sizes too small *shudder*

  • God no, it's God awful.
  • I work in the recruiting industry and depending on the type of interview you are going in for would depend on the type of attire. Either way, I would not suggest wearing a blouse with only one sleeve. If you wore a suit and had a suit jacket to go over the blouse that would be fine. Good Luck with your interview!
