**maria and others with back issues

Maria I remember talking to you about back and neck issues and that you had them while pg.

What helped you get through them? I already have these problems and somehow they have gotten worse without the big baby hanging out in front of me yet. I can only imagine what it's going to be like several months from now.

I have my first prenatal massage tonight. Did you do these and did they help? Any special exercises or stretches? Its my neck (as always) my left hip and for the last several weeks I've been getting a muscle spasm in my back that at times has been a "10" on the pain scale.

Any advice you have would be appreciated

Re: **maria and others with back issues

  • I did a lot of those stretches where you are on all fours and arch your back and then relax. That helped a little. My back is bad to begin with and working with ok students didn't help. I didn't get any massages or go to the chiropractor but it couldnt hurt right! Also, I know dr recommend a belly support but I hated mine and never wore it.

  • Are those the pelvic tilts? I just  read about those in my Bradley book. I'll have to try it.

  • No pelvic tilts you are laying on your back... I guess its called cat and camel what I did. Just googled it.

  • My back was horrible when I was pregnant, I also had terrible sciatic pain. After a few chiropractic adjustments and massages it got a lot better. I'd definitely recommend trying chiro and massage if you haven't already. I also wore a support belt which helped the some of the pressure off. For me walking also helped. if I didn't go for a 1/2 hour walk every day I could tell because my back would hurt a lot. After walking for a few weeks I could get away with not going every day.

As far as stretches go I didn't really do any.

  • I have had a really bad neck and back for years. Pregnancy made it a lot worse. I got quite a few massages and they felt great for a day or 2 then the pain came back. I also spent a lot of time at the chiropractor. nothing really made it that much better but I just dealt.

Wow I've never seen that before. Is it elastic? How often did you go to the chiropractor.

  • It is called the prenatal cradle. It was recommended by my midwife. It is elastic, velcro mix.

When I was pregnant I think I went to the chiro 2-3times a week.

Yeah that's what it is. This book just says to do "Pelvic Tilits on your hands and knees" I've been trying to do them a couple times a day. Hopefully this will help too.

This is what I'm affraid of. I hate the back issues I have. And what's worse is when I'm having a really bad episode DH gets upset because he can't fix it. Then all I hear is "Go to the docotor!!!? I HAVE! there isn't anything they can do. GaH

Yikes, 2-3 times a week. I think my insurance covers 10 visits lol., I wonder if I have a referal from my OB if that will help get more covered?

As for the cradle. Did it help more when you were further along or did you have it from the begining?

Yup, this is what I had to do with my siatica. My leg would give out from time to time.

  • I didn't get it until mid second tri, but my friend had issues during her first pregnancy and wore one almost her whole second and had a much better go of it. Next time I will start chiro and the cradle right off the bat.

  • Thanks for the info!! I'll see about the chiro and look into the cradle. I wish the chiropractor didn't freak me out a little haha. Not bad enough for me not to go, but I'm always scared when they do my neck.

Thanks again for he advice, I appreciate it.
