The MIL is coming.. dun dun dun

Any ideas on killer meals? (not literally of course ;)

Ways to really 'wow' her with our home -decor ideas, really good candle scents, etc.?

She will be with us for a week so I need ALL the help I can get :)

Oh any good comebacks for why I am not 'pregnant already' :)

Thanks Ladies

  • This recipe is a really great crowd pleaser...this is a link to my blog with some recipes, but this one is easy and delicious! Good luck!(also--it is not all that spicy)

  • I always like a not-pregnant retort that makes them think about the fact that they are, in effect, questioning your sex life.. something like "oh, but that practicing part is just too much fun!" and then that usually shuts them up.

I would pinterest some meals for sure.  Do you know her favorite drinks?  Foods?  Keep them stocked!  Pump your hubby for information.. she will appreciate it.  Have your guest room all set up to be super comforting for her -- she will appreciate your consideration.  Favorite magazines of hers?  Try to tailor as much of what you stock there for her as you can.. she'll think you're a wonderful host.

In our guest bedroom, we always stock miniature travel size of all the things our guests might have forgotten -- shampoo, conditioner, disposable razors, body wash, tooth brush, tooth paste, etc.  Kinda like an emergency kit or something.. they love it!

Anything you can do to anticipate her needs -- she'll love!

  • If my MIL would ever come visit I would stock up on booze.  For me.

  • Find out if she likes spicy or not.  I have the Joy of Cooking book which has a yummy recipe for chicken cordon bleu.

The guest room ideas above sound nice too!

And if she likes booze, maybe a nicer bottle of wine? Newmans own has a cheaper but good tasting wine.  Or find something nice at a wine store.

  • oh and you'll have a baby when you are ready.  I told my mom that my DH and I really just want to have some time together before we add anyone to the mix.

  • For pregnancy..."we are planning to have a baby in the future but really want to get adjusted to the new married life right now".

I would suggest having a list of things to do together so she is so entertained that she doesn't have time to focus on any other things.  Maybe go to a local gardens, museums, whatever she would enjoy. You could also ask her to "help" you with things that she would like. Maybe decorating or gardening.

For her stay - vacuum, mop, and dust right before she arrives. Soft scented plug-ins are nice. Stock the extra bedroom with extra TP, fresh towels, etc.

  • Roast chicken with scalloped potatoes and a nice veg....not difficult, but impressive looking.

Skip the faux air fresheners (which smell ghastly to some people) and spritz water with a few drops of essential oils around the house.

As for the not pregnant comebacks, say "we don't really like each other that way" :P or just "you'll be the first to know"...usually stops those comments in their tracks.
