Day care in CT...trouble with the local board

Hey I am trying to looking into day care, but no sites have prices listed. does anyone know about pricing on day cares in CT? I am having trouble with my CT local board. I'm not yet pregnant but we are trying to plan it. I know you can never be completely prepared but I want to have a general idea of what I will be getting into. We don't want to end up struggling. We want the best for our future family and need to come up with plans.

  • Why not look at local day care websites and do research for pricing? Would that help?
  • Can you just call the daycare and ask for prices? I had to do that when we started doing research on day cares as most don't have prices listed.

  • I'm in CT, but as you know the two sides are two different worlds and I'm sure prices reflect that. I'm east of the river and most daycares have income dependent sliding scales. Home daycares are generally cheaper than centers, but with the sliding scale a center can be reasonable. I think full price at my center is about $210 a week for babies. You provide diapers/wipes. They will provide formula or you can provide pumped milk.

  • When I was looking for daycares (in MD) most wouldn't give me prices over the phone (centers), it was after going in for tour/etc. that they would give out the paperwork/costs.
  • Check out 211daycare.org.  I'm in CT and everywhere I called would give me prices over the phone.  Centers by me were about $300-385/week/kid, and I'm meeting an in-home provider next week who charges $185/week/kid.  You can also check sittercity.com if you are interested in a nanny.

  • The daycares we priced on the CT border were 375 per week for an infant.
