Help!!! Urine on couch?

Hi all

I am a regular poster over on my BMB on the bump, but I desperately need some advice...

Last month my dog leaked a fairly  large spot of urine on our leather couch.  She is not old, but will leak if she has drank too much water.

Anyways, I thought I cleaned it, but now that the weather is warmer I can smell he urine...ugh!

Here is what I've tried - leather cleaner originally, and then natures miracle yesterday....and I saturated that sucker!  Please please please, does anyone have any experience or ideas on how to get his smell out of leather? Cushions are not removable nor can I open them.  I wold rather not pay hundred for a pro or buy a new set with a LO on the way.

Thanks all!

Re: Help!!! Urine on couch?

  • That's hard.  My first answer was leather cleaner.  Try calling a leather specialty store and ask if they have any products.

  • I've better results with Urine Off Odor and Stain Remover than Nature's Miracle. Hope that works for you.GL!

  • Working for a dry cleaner, I have learned a lot of the store bought products are sometimes useful in removing the odors, but don't always penetrate deep enough into the textile (in this case leather) to remove the underlying stains. This is why over time, the odor can come back. Always when applying wet solutions to leathers (or any textile), the product must be extracted which removes the cleaning solvent as well as the original stain. This generally requires more action than simply using a towel to blot the area; otherwise you are merely removing the stains and cleaning agents from the surface. If the cushion is removable, your best bet is to have a leather specialist evaluate the couch. Be sure you are seeking help from someone who is well trained in leather, since cleaning & treating leather is much different than cleaning other garments/textiles (ie a local dry cleaner)! GL!
