Dogs eating rabbit poop...yuck

We have a ton of wild rabbits in our neighborhood who are pooping all over, and my foul dogs are now using our backyard as a buffett table! Its disgusting! The first thing they do when they go outside is scavenge for rabbit poop. Then they bring their nasty @sses back in the house and puke on the carpet in DD's bedroom. I try to keep it picked up, but its next to impossible because its so small and we have a big yard, and I discourage the dogs when I see them doing it, but I dont always see them. Any suggestions? My dogs are making me sick, they go out and eat poop then come in and vomit making huge messes, then try to lick the baby with their poop mouths. Gross...help!

Re: Dogs eating rabbit poop...yuck

  • I had pet rabbits as a kid and our dogs used to eat their poop too. There must be something magical about rabbit poo to a dog. Our dogs didn't ever get sick from it though. My dad put up chicken wire around the rabbit hutch so the dogs couldn't get the poop, but I don't think that will work for you since your problem bunnies are wild. Maybe you could look into some sort of animal deterrent. I know they make some device that emits a really low sound and vibration into the ground and it is supposed to keep digging animals like rabbits and moles, etc, away. I don't know how effective or expensive they are, but it may be worth a shot.
