Toddler boy room

We are in the process of decorating my son's big boy room.  We got the Walden bed in midnight blue from land of nod and then the madras plaid bedding from PBK.  I do not want a midnight blue dresser, too matchy, so I'm trying to decide what will look best.  I'm thinking white dresser with blue top or white dresser with grey/brown top.  Originally I wanted white dresser with distressed wood top, but can't find that anywhere (for a good price).  I want something he can grow with...

Any suggestions?

Re: Toddler boy room

  • I'm a person who grew up with white bedroom furniture and looking back on it as an adult, I wish my parents had opted for dark. It shows all the knicks, shoe rubs, weird smudges, etc. I have been able to wipe some off (I still have the furniture since it's Ethan Allen) but they are not all gone. So I'd opt for the remainder of his furnitiure to be espresso or another dark color.

We are doing this exact same thing with DS's room now. His bed is blue and he will have dark wood furniture.

  • We are also doing almost the exact same thing. We have the blue bed from LoN and the madras bedding from pbk. We are using my H's furniture from his childhood which is a natural wood color. It isn't set up yet but I think it will look great together. If I were you I'd go darker furniture vs white. White is really girly to me personally for a toddler and older boy.
Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

  • Personally I would paint the dresser to match the bed, I don't think white would be a good mix in this setting.  As for mixing different woods, that may work, however, there is a fine line of looking eclectic and just looking jumbled together and so many kids rooms look thrown together.   We bought a set on CL(bed, dresser and nightstand) for DS's big boy room and are going to paint it all a marine blue color and then paint his armoire something sports related to tie in the sports theme.

FWIW - I love white, DS's nursery furniture is currently white and does not look girly at all - it's more about the style of the furniture(and your house) rather than color.
