Need some help nesties!! What to do with my wedding dress...

Ok, so it's about a month and a half after the big day and my dress is still sitting in the closet...uncleaned.

Originally, I was going to do a TTD session..but I fell in love with it on the day and just can't bear to trash it anymore! I wanted to do this purely for the fact I do NOT want my dress sitting in a box somewhere in my basement collecting dust...

I don't want to do the shadow box idea that has been cropping up everywhere..I just find it a little..too much.

And if this sounds really bad and selfish...I don't think I'll be able to part with it by donating it...

Your help and advice is appreciated!!! Thank you so much!!

Eh, my dress is the closet in my old bedroom at my parents' house. It's cleaned but not boxed. I don't plan on doing anything with it except moving it to my closet when I have the space.
  • I really love my wedding dress and I refuse to get rid of it. It's still sitting in my closet on a hanger; its not in a box or anything and I've been married over a year. I love it and if I have a daughter, she has the option to wear it; if not it will remain in my closet.

  • I did the shadowbox presentation with my dress.  I shipped it to the company, they cleaned it and repaired any loose beading and then sent it back in a nice box with my veil enclosed too.  It's very nice...however I have no idea what to do with it other than put it in my closet.  I recently saw an idea on Pinterest that I thought was so nice...if you have a walk in closet.  The woman got a large piece of wood and built a box with it andfinished it with varnish and made it nice, also she placed a piece of mirror in the back of the box...then she mounted it on her wall in her closet.  She got a large piece of glass and hung her  dress and veil in it along with her shoes  It looked gorgeous and was something that is reminiscent of a museum display.  She could see her entire gown displayed rather than folded and preserved in a box.  Obviously you have to have the space, supplies, and craftsmanship but I thought this was so stunning and would look so nice in a womans closet.  She also had a mini chandelier hung for lighting which made it elegant.

  • You can clean it and save it if you ever have children. You can turn it into a christening/ baptismal gown for them. When it is all cut up you can also save a piece for your daughters/ sons wedding day. Possible something old that could be left as is or turned into a button/ pin broach/ part of boutonniere, necklace, flower or left as is. Heck you could even turn it into something later when it's all cut up to keep as a statement peice.
  • My H suggested that I alter my dress into a minidress to wear. I'm not sure I want to do that, but if you have the right dress, that could be an option.
  • Do what I do.
Wear it to your friend's weddings.

  • I'm donating mine to Brides Across America. I'm hoping someone else will love it as much as I did.

  • i'm in the same boat I want to keep it but the shadow box just seems so blah mine is just hanging in the closet uncleaned from my wedding almost 3 weeks ago
