Fertility clinics? Anyone use the Jones Insititute?

I know RHS gets good reviews around here, but the Jones clinic is so much more convenient for me and I can't help but feel like the name is a good sign ;)  I want to go get a second opinion somewhere...and would like a doc that is comfortable with me trying Femara.

Re: Fertility clinics? Anyone use the Jones Insititute?

  • i've never heard of it. i tried RHS, but didn't like it. they, or at least the dr i met with, did not approve of using clomid/femara if ovulation was taking place. i never returned after that. i was scheduled to see sanfallipo, but never made it (and because we moved to WV i ended up with an RE in morgantown who turned out to be fabulous).

even if it did cost more, i still liked femara over clomid. but that's just me.

Thanks to our wonderful RE our family is complete!

  • We saw Dr. Kubick at RHS, and LOVED her.  If you look at IVF results online (all institutes are required to make this public knowledge) RHS has the highest results.  best of luck!

  • I went to Dr. Kubick, but a good friend of mine went to the Jones Institute and had a great experience there (3 successful IVF's).  There is also a Dr. in Wexford, Dr. Tippet (you're north, right?) - but I don't believe they do IVF.  I think you will find mixed reviews of all of the clinics out there. As long as you feel they are a fit for you is what's important!  Although, I might be wrong, but I thought the reason that some Dr's don't use Femara is because it is not approved as a fertility drug.  I was lucky and only had to do merformin + clomid for both boys, but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck!!!

I didn't, but my aunt and uncle had a great experience at the Jones Institute.

  • I've been lurking and haven't intro'ed yet, but I wanted to chime in and say I went through The Jones Institute and was very happy with my experience. Dr. Kauma is fairly cut and dried, but detailed and honest. His staff is amazing, and I actually miss them now that I've been released back to my OB. I don't know how he feels about Femera vs Clomid since he didn't think Clomid would work for me (my problem wasn't ovulation, it was diminished ovarian reserve). I will say he's somewhat open to discussion so he will at least talk about it with you and review pros and cons. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

  • I don't have experience, but I did go to RHS (which was mentioned) and I know they don't use Fermera. I got PG with Clomid through my OB, but I was also interested in trying Fermera due to the decreased rates of multiples. Between my PCOS symptoms and my incompetent cervix, RHS was hesitant to use Clomid with me but they wouldn't even consider Fermera, which is why I never went back to them. My next step after doing the reduced cycle of Clomid with my OB was Jones or Magee.
  • I saw Dr. Tippet in Wexford, and had a great experience.  He does offer IVF if needed, I can't comment on his success rates sinces we only needed IUI's (Male IF) but I loved his entire staff.  I don't have experience with other RE's but I will say it was very nice to be able have everything (bloodwork & ultrasounds) completed at his office.

  • I am a big fan of Dr. Wakim's group at Magee.  They do all of their own testing, labs, and ultrasounds in their office.

. That is who I am currently with and I'm ready for a change.

. Thanks!!  It's good to hear of someone who went there and liked them!  I went ahead and scheduled a consult, so hopefully he is willing to work with me...  Can you tell me how much contact you had with him?  My main issue with my current RE (besides how this whole impending miscarriage debacle I'm dealing with right now has been handled) is that I never see him.  One initial appt and then nothing.  The staff is nice and all, but I hate playing telephone through so many people.  (and congratulations!!!!!)

I saw him in person for all the important stuff - consults, HSG, SHG, review of my initial diagnosis, surgery to remove a polyp, my IUI's, IVF. He's the only Dr in the practice, though he does have residents with him occasionally. However, for the routine stuff -b/w, u/s, phone questions, protocol for meds I saw the awesome, awesome nurses and staff. It's a small practice. Three nurses, one phleboromist, an u/s tech, office manager, financial consultant (possibly more, but those are the main ones). They aren't the most high tech - I had to call rather than email, and when I looked at donor profiles they gave me file folders instead of access to a database - but they always called me back the same day or as soon as possible the next day. I hope you have a good experience!
