Need date night ideas....

I want to spend more quality time with H....less time sitting on our butts watching tv, but also not spending much $.

We don't go to the movies, H is always too tired to go and doesn't want to sit in a dark theater because he thinks he'll fall asleep. He also doesn't go for walks, he's on his feet all day at work and the last thing he wants to do is walk around town after work.

Our usual evening consists of us eating dinner when we're both home, watching tv, then either hanging with our neighbors next door, or just watching tv until it's time for bed...boring!

I get Groupon/Living Social emails with some fun ideas, but nothing great has come along so we havent done anything recently (we've done a whale watch, gone to the Aquarium etc. in the past when there were deals on Groupon)

I'd like to do some fun things (even just something that would last an hour or so) on a weeknight, or something longer on the weekends.

Any ideas??

H and I like to go out for ice cream in the summer. We also really love visiting zoos, although we haven't gone in a while...

  • A cheap thing to do is have an electronic free night. We like to make a fun new recipe together we have never tried and turn off the electronics (maybe have TV on for noise--H hates silence). We then play board games--we played Monopoly last night and it was so much fun...and so silly!

Another option would be to go to a bed and breakfast in a city nearby you don't know and do a restaurant tour. We love the food channel and like to look up some of the restaurants featured on there that are nearby and are planning on doing a weekend exploring some of them in a new place. It's a cheap way to do a mini vacay.

  • We really like to go on bike rides, or just walk around the neighborhood.

We also like to go get frozen yogurt, and play mini golf.. both are very cheap to do!

You could go fishing if you have a lake nearby :)

  • When it's nice out we like to pack up or pick up dinner and head to a local park for a picnic, then we'll usually walk around after.

On the weekends sometimes we'll take a mini road trip and drive for an hour or two to a new restaurant, museum, etc.

We'll also try and catch deals so we can go out more: $5 movie night, $15 theater tickets, 2/$20 dinner specials, free days at museums, etc.

We like to go bike riding even if it is just around town or we'll pack up the bikes and head to a good trail for a more thrilling ride. We also like to visit local area tourist spots. This weekend we're going to Mackinac Island with my brother and his girlfriend. Or we like to go for road trips. We find a place near by and just go for a drive, we don't make any plans other than to see where we end up. You could also see what local festivals are going on in your area and visit some of them. Something else the hubby and I like to do are to spend an evening at home just eating appetizer type foods and putting a puzzle together or playing board games. Sometimes just a quiet night at home is the best date!

  • So H and I are just big kids at heart so we like playing cards or games in general. One night we turned the furniture around got out some sheets and made a fort. We threw pillows and blankets on the floor I looked up random questions and we sat there for a few hours eating dessert and talking. It was so much fun we enjoyed it.

We also really enjoy bowling and have been going every few months since we started dating. We also like to go for double dates with H's cousin and his FI.

haha  i just pinned that too, i was coming in here to post it, you beat me to it!  :)

  • If you're looking for something fun on the weekend, try this:

    http://monkeytrunks.com/

I took H there last year for his birthday. We went to the one in Saco and had an awesome time! I know it's like a 2 hour drive, but we made it worth it by stopping for ice cream in York after, and rode down 1A. If you prefer the mountains, there is one in Cochura I heard is good too.

I'd also go to the zoo. We've been to the Roger Williams zoo, and that was a good one. Haven't been to Franklin Park, yet.

Do you have bicycles? You could ride the bike paths like MinuteMan and the one along the Charles River. For a day trip, go to the Cape Cod Canal. I usually park this side of the canal this time of year. And bring a picnic lunch.

  • We have run into this routine before too.  We have really kicked ourselves into the gym gear.  Some days (like last night) we just don't feel like going and killing ourselves, but we push each other to do it.

On our "fun" nights...we usually take a bike ride, or get some ice cream during the summer.  We also usually go grocery shopping and dinner on Friday nights.  It's become a joke with our family and friends, but it's just one of those things that we love to do together and we have no lives!!

  • Thanks everyone!

We don't do much physical activity together (mostly since H is already tired/worn out from working all day outside doing physical labor) but I like the picnic idea, or just going to the local ice cream place to get something, or even playing games or something non-tv related at home.

  • What about walking after dinner? DH and I did that for a while, it was nice exercise and it was nice to talk to him without the tv or our cell phones.

  • Our favorite thing to do is go to a comedy club, always a good time, even if the guy isn't that funny!

We also love doing wine tastings, there's a cute little wine bar where we live so its a great spot for us!
