Keeping the cat off the counters...HELP!!
I am hoping someone can help me...my husband and I brought home a 10 week old kitten in the beginning of April. She is always jumping on the kitchen counters and kitchen tables. She knows she is not supposed to be up there and will quickly jump off when we catch her. However, she continues to do it! We are not home that often and so cannot be consistent with the spray bottle trick. We have tried putting down tinfoil and spraying the areas with vinegar water but it does not work. Any ideas? We are not sure what to do at this point.

Cta slike high places. Is there something that kitty could have as his own perch?
My cat has always been afraid of hights. She has gotten better and will jump up on things only has high as the bed or countertops. For a while after she got over her fear she would always be up in my face and on the food I was trying to cook. I tried flicking her ears, spraying her with water, etc. The two things that really got it through to her were physically picking her up, setting her down and saying down. The second was when I couldn't pick her up (messy hands) was saying down and repeatedly pointing to the ground. Now I can say down a couple of times and she will jump down if I don't want her someplace. She no longer jumps on the kitchen counter where I cook. She has a spot that is not used for cooking that she is allowed to sit.
Something that may work for your table and counters would be putting double sided tape on it. Kitty wont like the feel of it on her paws and jump down. You can also get something that is motion activated. It will spray a puff of air or make a startling noise that will cause kitty to back off.
We just keep them free of stuff they find interesting, and that helps deter them.
5 cats. 1 baby.
Get a Cat Scram! We used one when we were trying to keep the cats from banging on the bedroom door at night (before we relented and let them sleep with us), and it worked really well. It is motion activated and emits a high-pitched noise that only the cats can hear, but do not like. We loaned it to my husband's sister to keep her cat off the bathroom counter and it worked for her, too.
