I need to decorate my home!

I am not good at decorating- please help me.  I need to paint my dining room, but not sure what color to choose? The colors in my living room are green tea with white trim- and it's right next to my dining room.  What do you think about burgundy? too loud?

Re: I need to decorate my home!

  • It definitely depends on your taste. Personally, I don't like to have all the walls color-painted. If I had green walls in my living room, I'd probably just stick with ivory in the dining room (maybe with a mural or something). That's just me though. I love color in the right doses.

You could also do an accent wall. Keep three of the walls ivory, and then paint one wall (maybe behind where you display your dishes or family photos). You could use the tea green from the living room so that the two rooms connect well.

  • burgundy is going to make your room look small. You can do an accent wall in burgundy where you want the most focus and the remaining walls in a neutral color.

I would just keep with the tone of the other room. You don't want one bold color room and the other in a pastel. that would look weird. take a look at paint swatches in a Lowes or Home Depot to see what color looks pleasing with the color you already have.

  • Do you have an open floor plan or is your dining room closed off? A burgundy accent wall might look nice in the dining room with a more neutral color on the other walls. You could also do neutral colors on the walls and burgundy accents, such as table cloth or placemats.
