So - thoughts on Opening Ceremonies?

Who watched? What did you think? Highlights - lowlights?

Re: So - thoughts on Opening Ceremonies?

  • We only caught bits and pieces, so I can't really comment - but according to my FB feed, people were less than impressed with the opening ceremonies!
  • 1. comparing it to China's opening ceremonies is not fair.

SO that being said, I found it to be enjoyable. The weird baby thing on was, well creepy.  And EJ did not understand how a bunch of ladies with umbrellas could scare away all those bad guys.  hahaha.  I thought they did a nice job of telling the story of the UK, and I think the bird/bike thing was cool. As well as getting the Queen to be a bond girl. I had lowered my expectations after not liking the winter games opening ceremonies two years ago.

I didn't hate them, but I wasn't a huge fan either. However, as far as telling the story of England, they did well.

I wish they were a little more colorful, the costumes and scenery were just so drab.

Kind of like the history of the country, to be honest!

The whole June and Frankie thing I did not get at all. The Queen looked less than impressed when she was introduced after "jumping out of a plane". I didn't stay up to watch McCartney, but I heard he was "bleh." Frankly, I was kind of bored with it - though I do think the set transformations was pretty amazing!

  • I thought they were great. I missed them Friday night but got to watch most of it on demand. I thought they told the story of the country very well. I also didn't understand the June and Frankie thing and agree that the giant baby was, well, freaky! One of my favorite parts was when the camera was on the screen and one of the network announcers said something like - and look at how happy the Queen is - and she had her normal scowl on her face. Does that lady ever smile?
