Thinking WAY ahead, but unique Christmas parties?
We have some new neighbors and couple friends that I'd love to host a Christmas get-together with. We've already done cookouts with these folks, and they were lots of fun. I was trying to think of some fun Christmas events to host. I've done the tacky sweater thing before, but not with these people. Any ideas?

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
If you have enough people, you could always do a white elephant exchange!
Hi! I'm with you, I LOVE Christmas and am already dreaming of Thanksgiving. The only thoughts I have to share re: Christmas parties are these. and please everyone take this with a grain of salt...
1. Not a fan of cookie swaps or sweater parties. (forgive me).
2. I think gift exchanges are fun - but would rather bring a wrapped toy for charity. You may already be organizing this at your church - I think you are a pastor's wife?
3. Traditional menus are nice... but if you are looking for something different perhaps a Fiesta? Ever since Tarheels did hers - I've wanted to throw one. Perhaps with Sangria or a Cranberry Margarita? Lots of bright colors and red and green.
4. I also really like cuisines or menus that are International in flavor and music too. Sometimes by December, everyone gets a little tired of turkey and cranberries and traditional Christmas Carols. Make yours fun with some different music. We attended one with light rock/disco music and it was awesome! (Holiday themed).
5. Can your throw a January party? I like entertaining in January. (My kids' pre-school does a "Souper Bowl of Caring" where they collect canned food donations the week before the Super Bowl. Could also do a Caribbean or Beach themed event then - which would be really refreshing. I think you would also get a really good turn-out because everyone is sort of "blah" after the holidays. You could also do this on the 12th night or "Little Christmas" - January 6th if it has to tie in with the religious calendar.
HTH and let us know what you end up doing please. I esp. like pic's too.
Hi! Lurker here, but I thought I'd chime in...
Every year I have a Christmas Soir?e with a different theme; my favorite was a Gourmet Hot Chocolate Bar. I served white, milk and dark hot chocolate with about 15 different add-ins like toffee chips, caramel, Andes mints, peppermint sticks, mini marshmallows, flavored syrups, Bailey's, an assortment of different Schnapps, etc. It was a huge hit! Everyone loved experimenting with different combinations.
I always ask my guests to bring a new, un-wrapped children's toy (if they're able) to give to patients at Children's Hospital, and that year I sent everyone home with my homemade hot chocolate mix. I may have to repeat this theme!
Love this idea!
