1st Anniversary Cake

So my husband and I will be at the beach on family vacation during our 1st Anniversary. I was just wondering about the tradition of eating the top of our wedding cake.

Would it be bad luck to eat it before or after our Anniversary? We're flying to vacation and I really don't feel like carting around a big tupperware container. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: 1st Anniversary Cake

  • We ate it the week we got back from the HM so... I say EAT IT NOW!
  • We may be on vacation for our anniversary as well. We plan to eat it on or as close as possible to our wedding date. I don't think it's bad luck to eat it before or after, it is just a tradition.
  • No it wont be bad luck.  Eat it and enjoy!  Ours was still delicious :)

  • We didn't even follow that tradition, we didn't keep any of the cake.  I wasn't big on cake anyway.  We shared a wonderful slice of cheesecake for our 1st and it was great.  I vote...eat it up!

  • It'll be a fun remembrance no matter when you eat it.

We ate the top tier of ours the day after our wedding.  My great aunt and uncle were both feeling ill, and couldn't stay for much of the reception, so we went to their hotel room the next day and ate it with them and had a nice visit :)

We ate ours within a month of marriage. Mostly because it was made by my sister and wouldn't last a year.
  • We didn't want any cake, but our wedding coordinator boxed the top cake for us.  While on our HM, we both craved it because it was sooooo good, so we ate the whole thing when we got back. Love wedding coordinators!
  • It won't be bad luck, but if you're really superstitious you can always bring it in a cooler w/ lots of ice (unless you're flying). We ate ours late...I think. Everyone told us theirs was so gross a year later, but ours was still really good. Neither of us really got to eat any the day of, so we were excited!
  • Ours so was still so good, too! We kept it in the freezer at my Mom's house so neither of us would be tempted to persuade the other to bust into it before hand.  I think were going to recreate a mini f our cake for our 5 year anniversary, (2 more years!)

I don't think it's bad luck at all. if you do it before or after you can spread out the fun over a few days :)
