If so, why did you do it, and how do you feel that it benefited you?
This was recommended to me by a health professional recently and I can't remember why but I'm about a week and a half in and i'm so much less bloated (barely bloated at all, actually!) and I feel lighter (can't figure out the words to describe it, hope that makes sense...) I know it has something to do with cutting out the sugars, but then it made me wonder, why did he not recommend going no/low carb instead? The only things i've excluded from my diet are fruits, and bread/bagels/rolls (but i'm still eating pasta and pizza, which sort of doesn't feel like it makes any sense...)
Re: Has anyone cut bread and fruit out of their diet?
I once was on a diet that had no bread and barely any fruit in it for health reasons. Now I only eat bread occassionally and eat fruit following a few guidelines. The reason why bread as a opposed to pasta might have been recommended to be removed from your diet is because some people have an issue digesting yeast which is in bread and not pasta. Pizza is made from bread however. Pizza dough is bread. Maybe because you're not eating as much bread as before the pizza isn't affecting you as much.
Fruit is something that shouldn't be eaten with other foods. Fruit digests a lot faster than other foods and so they cause bloating. I usually only eat them an hour after and an hour before I eat anything else. But also certain fruit like apples make some people more bloated than others. People like me, so I don't eat apples.
I've tried a low carb diet for health reasons and couldn't sleep after day three. I'm someone who needs a certain amount of carbs to stay healthy.
Somehow, this past spring, I was on the Internet looking up info about sugar addiction. I always seem that I can't eat just one cookie - I end up binge eating and blow my diet. I stumbled upon a yeast-free diet (no, not a "lose weight' diet, but just a regular diet - meaning "this is what I eat"). It said that an overgrowth of yeast in one's body can lead to bloating, gas, and craving for sugar. The sugar feeds on more sugar. So I tried it for 3 weeks. Didn't eat anything with sugar or bread. No bread, sugar, fruit, cheese, dairy. It was hard but I did it. I could eat veggies, lots of protein, meat, fish, nuts, whole grains, etc. I found that my gas and bloating went away and my cravings did as well! It was really hard to not eat bread, crackers, potato chips, etc. those 3 weeks. Now I'm starting a sugar-free life and have recently found yeast-free bread so I'll probably add that in as well.
I dont' know, but your doctor might think you have a yeast overgrowth - hence the no bread or fruit/sugar. But if he didn't say stay away from white flour then probably not. On a yeast-free diet you can have whole grain carbs - pasta - only. No white flour carbs. Hope that helps!
I follow a paleo lifestyle so I do not eat any grains, legumes, dairy, and sugar. I do eat fruit but I limit it (try to most days) to immediately post-workout and only 1 serving. Yes there are the days that there isn't much food in the house so I snack on fruit, but that is not the norm.

Good luck it's totally worth it!
I can't say that i've ever cut out fruit. I like it far too much to exclude it from my diet, to be honest (though I have had less in recent months).
It's been approximately 3 months since I have mostly cut out bread from my diet. SO found out that he has a wheat/barley allergy, so it was just convenient for me to cut it out of my diet as well. Now, i'm far from strict about the entire thing. If I have a sandwich, I don't consider it a major loss. I do have to say, however, that i've had a lot less heartburn (I suffer from a pretty severe case of GERD) since choosing to mainly avoid.
