Replacing Windows

We have to replace the windows in a house we purchased.  It is a total gut job...

What style would you replace them with in the front?  The front are crank windows while the back of the house has double hung.

Would you put window grids in or plain glass?

They are very tall and skinny.  About 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide.

Re: Replacing Windows

  • I'm usually not a fan of grids...BUT, I think they would actually look very good with your style of home. :)

  • I don't think window grids would look good with the tall narrow windows (5 ft by 3 ft).
  • It depends on what you want the home to look like.  Replacing the cranks with double-hungs would make your home look more cottagey and traditional.  (I'm assuming you would put a single double-hung in each double-crank space.) The grids, either full window or just on the upper panes, would make it even more so.  The cranks make it look a little more contemporary -- but in a 1980s sort of way.

    Personally, I'd prefer the double-hungs.

I think the double-hung windows would suit your home, too. We had all our windows replaced recently through Atlanta Champion windows. They?re all double hung and look very nice. The neat thing about these windows is that they?re energy-efficient and can save you a bundle on utility bills. It?s made of a special type of glass that keeps the heat in during winter and keeps the heat out during summer. Check it out and see if it?s something you?d go for.
