what should we do?

My husbands first cousin is knocked up and planned a wedding in two months. Her father (husband uncle) has been a huge father figure to my hubby most of his life father spent a lot of time in jail. Hubby also works for the uncle for  alittle over a year now. When we received the invite for e wedding we found out the date is durning our already family vacation. (wedding is August 24 and are away from August 20- 27). We send the response in saying we couldn't go and he had told his uncle in February thAt we booked vaca and when it was so he would get time off from job. This past Sunday uncle called hubby and yelled at him about finding out we were not going and that we should go. Even though it would mean changing our plans.  So things were fine with us we still agreed we are not going. This is something u deal with when u plan a wedding in a short time. Not all the family will be able to go.  Yesterday he tells me he is feeling bad and thinks we should go and it would be possible to drive back that day and return late that night. We r going to new hamisphere. I don't think we should go, the long driving with the little kids again and the gas price for this. Plus losing time away from our planned vacation.  We want some of ur ideas on this. She is a cousin that we don't talk to much at all, she is a lot younger than us, and she had cheated on this guy last Sumer and we thought she was done with him, and every time we saw her since last summer he was there but no ring ( oh yeah last feb he proposed then she cheated and the ring was off) now this Sunday I was at the shower and he gives her the ring with a new and improved setting.  What should we do?

Re: what should we do?

  • Truth...This marriage is not going to last anyway!

A similar situation happened in my H's fmaily.  His cousin knocked some girl up and married her in 2 months.  H's brother lives accross the country and didn't come home for it.  His exact words were, "I'll come to his next wedding."

There is no way I would change my plans for this ridiculous wedding.  DON'T GO!!  Go on vacation instead.

Need something to tell them, here you go: "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine."

  • The wedding is in 3 weeks and you've already had this vacation planned. Don't go, send a nice card and a gift.

  • No way, that is ridiculous that they want you to do that. Like PPs said, go to the next wedding! Wink

  • thanks everyone for the great advice. I am going to talk to hubby later and see what we are going to do. I think we should buy a gift and maybe go to lunch before we leave and that would be enough.

  • Personally, I would not want to go, but if it was really important to DH I would.
