Invitation wording....help?

Ok, so I'm helping plan a surprise birthday party and I'm trying to figure out how to tell people a meal and cake will be served. Seems simple enough, right? Well, we are asking guests to arrive between 2:30 and 3:00pm and the guest of honor will arrive around 3:30pm(just trying to leave some lee-way(sp?) for stragglers).

It will be an informal outdoor party, no theme, and guests will serve themselves. I think it's going to be a party sub, salads, and chips type meal. Guests will start eating after the birthday boy arrives. So is that late lunch? early dinner? or just food? LOL.

 TIA!

Re: Invitation wording....help?

  • we've also asked them not to bring gifts.

    "Your presence is the present."

Is it a cheesy thing to say? Absolutely, but I like it,a nd it's true. LoL.

  • For the surprise parties we have attended, there has been no mention of food or presents on the invite.

They did serve dinner buffet style, it just wasn't put out until after the birthday boys arrived.

    HTH?

I agree with Princess, don't put the food out until after the bday boy arrives.  I'd don't think you have to mention food and cake.  For the time of the party, as a guest, I would not expect to be served a meal but would welcome it.  Cake is a given right.

I'm on the fence about even mentioning gifts too.  Your presence is your present should be fine.
