Crap, I don't like our hardwood

Is flooring one of those things that has to grow on you? Sad

Re: Crap, I don't like our hardwood

  • oh no!  What color did you go with? is it possible that it is just overwhelming now without furniture, rugs,  paint and other decor?

I am with Amanda, once you put an area rug and furniture, it breaks up the "solidness" of it. Have they painted the walls yet or are they still white primer?

  • We went with a dark handscraped hardwood. I wanted a light hickory with lots of color variation, but anything close to that was really expensive. There weren't many options at all in our price range, but I was confident in our choice despite the fact that it was the opposite of what I initially wanted. I don't know though, now that it's down I don't love it. The color's fine, but I don't like the width of the planks, the uniform color or the scraped look. That's a lot of stuff to dislike about your floor!

It sounds beautiful!  I think in general once you have everything in your house you barely notice the floors.  They're one of those things that generally blend in and you only notice if they look out of place.

  • The walls aren't primed yet. They're also not finished, but there was enough visible. I'll see if I can upload a pic.

  • Kay, see if this works. The color is actually nicer than I remembered in the picture, but I'm worried that the scraping makes it look like fake hardwood.

  • What you described is my absolute favorite flooring. Once you add area rugs and furnishings I think it'll grow with you. And just think... you wont be in a panick when the kids are throwing toys on your new wood floor since it's already distressed a bit.
  • I think you are focusing too much on the single element. Once the rest of the room is put together I suspect you will be happy with your decision once again.
  • My parents have that floor in their sunroom, I love it!

It shows up WAY lighter in this picture for some reason but it really is a great floor. Their woodwork is showing up super orange too, bad picture.

  • It looks nice!  Wait until you get furniture in there and some paint on the walls.
