Which (online) sites do you use to book hotels?

I surprised my DH with tickets to the ND/Pitt game at ND in early November. He's going with 3 friends and I"m looking into booking them a hotel room. (Side note: I'm so jealous that I won't be taking him to campus for his first time!!!)

I know the surrounding areas to price out, since I went to school out there, but I have no idea which site might offer the best rates. Any suggestions, please?

ETA: They won't be needing anything fancy since they're basically grown college guys. Stick out tongue

Re: Which (online) sites do you use to book hotels?

  • I always check prices through Kayak, and either book directly with the hotel I select (assuming they match the kayak price) or book on Kayak.
  • I've used Orbitz and Expedia and have been pleased.
  • I use expedia or book directly through the hotel (and I am SOOOOOOOOOOO jealous!!!!!!!! :)
  • ditto, i scope out the rates on hotels.com, orbitz, etc and then book directly with the hotel if that's still the cheapest.  we have status with marriott so usually that's where we end up.

if we are going somewhere for only one night, then i use priceline or hotwire and get the nicest room I can for the cheapest rate I am willing to pay by using better bidding.com

PS - awesome gift!  my parents will be at that game.  I wanted to go to Notre Dame SO BAD, was wait-listed, but didn't get in.  amazing place!

  • Thanks for the tips! Through booking.com, I found a room for 2 nights for around $400 (with tax) about 3 miles from campus. This is about what I was expecting, but I will check out the other sites now too!

And Gwen and Balba - I know, right? I am insanely jealous. My DH's BF suggested the wives go as well, but I'm going to be around 32 weeks along and you never know the weather out there. I am not interested in standing in possibly snowy weather for a game. Plus, we already have freinds lined up to watch the boys 3 weekends later while DH and I go to an out-of-town wedding; I don't want to do that to them twice in one month!

I got the tickets through my brother's old roommate (the're both Alum). I know he has two Purdue tix (Sept 8) and tix for one other home game. Let me know if you are interested - he's just asking face value ($73 ea., I think they are).

Ditto Sara, though occasionally I also check expedia.

  • If you want to compare sites, you can use Kayak. I typically use Expedia or Orbitz.
