To paint ceilings or not?
Hello everyone.
My husband and I recently moved into a home with smooth ceilings. Initially, I was planning to only have the walls painted, but after thinking about it for a little bit, I have considered painting the ceilings as well.
Do any of you have a preference for painted vs. not painted ceilings? Or do any of you have some suggestions or things to be mindful of if I do choose to have them painted?
Thanks!
Re: To paint ceilings or not?
Do you mean paint them a color?
I'd say it depends on your personal style. I prefer white ceilings in my house, but have seen colored ceilings that I adore. That said, if you're having the walls painted, I would have everything painted at the same time.
Yes. A color. For example, if a room were painted a blue shade, the ceiling would be painted in a lighter shade of that same blue (maybe a 50% blue 50% white mix of that wall color). Something like that.
I see pictures I adore. I just worry painting the ceilings will create a headache for the future if we wish to paint the rooms a different color at some point down the road.
Thanks for the input.
Doing 50% is a great look. As far as it being a "headache" later, well, it's no harder than painting walls, so if you're theoretically repainting the walls anyways, it's not that big a deal if you've got all the stuff out already. And you don't always have to repaint the ceiling later on - baby blue or khaki ceilings could go with several different color walls.

Thanks.
I appreciate the vote of confidence. In the taller rooms in the house, I am going to have to hire a pro, but would you say it is a fairly easy DIY? Obviously, I have never painted a ceiling before, so sorry if that is a dumb question. I am just curious if there are any considerations (like paint finish or type).
Thanks again everyone.
Just put the roller head on a broom handle, KWIM? Easy peasy. Do everything the same as if you're painting walls.

Easy peasy.... And a pain in the neck
fwiw OP I have 17' foot ceilings and with an extension arm I can reach it. It's not fun, and if you can afford it totally worth hiring pros - Your neck and back will thank you.
Im not a fan of the 50% - I like white ceiling and consistent trim color, but it's your house. Either way A fresh coat of paint on the ceilings makes a huge difference and is totally worth the extra effort/cost

Not a fan of painted ceiling but I think they look the best with a nice dividing moulding otherwise I feel the room closes in a lot.
