White bedding?

So my love for pinterest has changed the way I look at white bedding... I used to think it was harsh, but it actually has a very relaxing, clean look to it.  BUT I'm still apprehensive about keeping it clean. I've been searching online and some ppl say that it's actually a practical approach to cleaning because you don't have to worry about fading, can apply bleach (but I'll try to avoid that since DH and I are sensitive-I've seen several good reviews on using oxy-clean), etc.  But part of me wonders if I'd be too worried about getting it dirty.  I love to lie on my bed when I get home from work, and I don't really plan on changing that habit.  Any thoughts?

Re: White bedding?

  • I had white bedding when H & I first moved in together. The problem? H is an auto tech. He never comes completely clean so our sheets were stained in no time. I switched for a darker color.

  • My mother always pushed white sheets and towels for the bleach factor. I'm definitely like her in the respect that I want my towels and sheets to be as clean as possible. I have "bleach safe" towels that are a nice ivory color that haven't faded from bleach yet...maybe you can find some darker sheets that are bleach safe as well. Honestly though, we even have a dog who sleeps on our white sheets and very rarely do I find a visible dirty spot on them.

  • We have white bedding. I love the look and it is pretty easy for us to keep it clean. I wash everything once a week and we have a dog that sleeps on our bed. So far every time I wash them, they look like new. I don't even use bleach, just Tide.

  • We have ivory bedding, sheets, duvet, throws, pillows.  We wash in hot water and use 28 mule team borax and a 1/2 strength bleach.  Hubby comes home grubby from work, and it stays very clean.

  • So we have white-ish sheets and by that I mean they are white but they have a colored design. And my side stays fairly clean but his pillow cases and his side just don't stay clean. So we now have colored sheets and our "extra" pillows get the white cases.
  • We have white sheets and I love it! I use face wash with benzoyl peroxide in it so I never have to worry about it staining our sheets, plus if you get something on it, you can bleach it. Plus for some reason they feel clean because they are white.

  • I had a white duvet cover for 5-6 years, and it was fine.  I used bluing agent instead of bleach to keep it white-white.  However, I decided against white bedding because a) I wanted something else and b) you have to treat the bedding WAY more often when used everyday by a man (at least in my case!)

  • Good points... I think I may get one set to see how it works for us.  Won't know until i try, right? Thanks!
