We don't have night stands in our bedroom, and I'm looking for an inexpensive alternative to get us by for a few months because new nightstands aren't quite in the budget yet.
I have one of these decorator tables in our bedroom right now with one of those granny-ish table clothes that are made for them.. but I was thinking.. would it be crazy if I bought another one of these cheap tables and painted them both in some funky accent color.. maybe like a tomato-ish red color, and just left the granny table cloth off?
I thought it might actually look kinda cool just to get us by for awhile and it would be a cheap way to have kinda cool looking and matching night stand tables, but am I insane?
Re: inexpensive night stand opinion?
Thanks for the reply! High gloss sounds like a great idea.
I think I'm actually going to do this. At least if I don't like them in the end, i'll only be out around $15
Sorry, but that's not a winning idea. It's going to look like what it is: painted chip board. You're not going to be able to get a smooth finish. You're better off buying something at Goodwill or CL. There's a different style of that table that has a smoother finish (just depends on the manufacturer), but I still say the scale is way off - scrawny little legs holding up a comparatively big top.
Decorator tables are back for traditional decor, so if you can sew, you can make up a skirt on a budget.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
Of course this depends on your style, but the decorators tables with a current tablecloth are definitely back in style for people who like traditional/Ballard Designs/Pottery Barn type decor.

I've seen these a lot with burlap or a modern pattern tablecloth as a bedside table lately. I think if you left it bare, it will look like wobbly and cheap fake wood.
I guess maybe you guys are right about the painting of the decorator table.. haha.. I didn't realize that they were back in style?
I really wish I had an IKEA near by.. I wonder when IKEA is going to start selling things online?! Grrr...
What about getting a single filing cabinet? It has a drawer and if you sand it down using 220 grit, wash it off well, and paint - you've got a funky look.
Check craigslist for cheap furniture in your area. Might be able to pick something up for way cheap and then paint.
We bought these from Target ($59 each)
