Golden Doodle Breeders

Hi everyone,

We'd like to get a Golden Doodle for our family of 4. We have 2 kids that are 2 and almost 4. We're leaning towards a medium sized Golden Doodle.  Can anyone please recommend a reputable breeder? We're in NJ and right now are looking at Dazzle Doodles in WA. They would ship the puppy to us.

TIA!

Re: Golden Doodle Breeders

  • How about adopting a dog from a shelter and saving a life?
  • "Goldendoodles" aren't a breed, so there are no reputable breeders.

Reputable breeders breed in order to better their breed of choice. You can't improve a breed by mixing it with another breed.

Our board FAQs explain it more in-depth:
    https://sites.google.com/site/petsboardfaqs/home/all-about-designer-dogs

If you're interested in that particular mix, however, you can try adopting one. You can try Googling "doodle rescues."

  • I have yet to figure out why someone is willing to pay for a 'Designer Breed' dog when all it really is is a mutt. Go to the shelter and get your own, one of a kind 'designer' dog and feel good knowing that you saved just one life!

  • This is going to be long...  I don't want to tell you not to buy one because I'm sure you will get a lot of responses like that.  To be honest my husband and I were looking at them about a year ago.  After doing a lot of research we also realized there really aren't any reputable "doodle" breeders - here's why:  Reputable breeders who breed purebred dogs want to improve the breed.  They do this by health testing, showing, and competeing in things like agility, fly ball, hunting, ect.  You will be hard pressed to find a designer mutt breeder that does any of this.  They then breed the best two matches that will have a litter to improve the breed.  We ended up getting a standard poodle puppy from health tested parents that also were shown and did therapy work.  We knew our chances of having a healthy, stable dog were so much better because of the care and consideration given to the breeding.  She is a great pup!  Just last month we rescued a 4 year old standard poodle.  He is awesome too, and it is so nice not to deal with the puppy craziness.  I would absolutely rescue if you are set on a "goldendoodle" they are all over petfinder and need good homes.  If you want to buy a puppy please, please, please do your research.  I have heard too many heartbreaking stories of sick puppies due to poor breeding.  Lastly I will say, I did check out Dazzle Doodles website - stay away!!  They have way too many litters to be able to properly care for needy puppies.  A reputable breeder will only have one maybe two litters max. per year.  The cost and time in planning a breeding is too high to do it more than that.  Dazzle has 4 litters that will be on the ground in August alone!!  I hope this helps to educate you and doesn't come across too harsh.  I didn't know all of the facts when I started looking either.  You could give a sweet dog in need of a home a wonderful life if you look at rescue.

  • PPs gave great info, and I agree that there are no reputable golden/poodle breeders, but I wanted to add that www.petfinder.com is a great place to search for adoptable dogs in your area (you can search golden retriever or poodle to come up with golden/poodle mixes, and you can narrow it to babies and/or young dogs if you prefer).  Look at these sweet girls in Delaware (8 months and 6 months):

Even if there isn't one that is a match right now, you can get in touch with a rescue and get pre-approved so that when the right match comes along, you're at the top of the list!

  • Not harsh out all!  Thanks for taking the time to look at the site.  I appreciate your comment.

  • A "goldendoodle" is NOT A  BREED.

it's a MUTT and nothing more.

Goldendoodles are the product of puppy mills and sh!t back yard breeders.

And UGH..."ship the puppy to you"??? For love of God, DON"T bother.

Want a lab? Try a lab rescue. GL

  • I am very late, but I'm glad you took everyone's comments to heart.  Do you all have allergies you're concerned about?  A dog like a Wheaton or a standard poodle would be better for allergies and you can find them with reputable breeders.  As others mentioned, adult golden retriever poodle mixes can be found in rescue.  They are not always good for allergies though, since they do not breed true, which others explained.  If you meet an individual adult you should be able to feel out the allergy issues.

To me that website looks like a well disguised puppy mill based on the number of litters they're having per month and the fact that they are all different mothers and fathers.  Ugh, heartbreaking :  (
