quality of Pratt & Lambert paint?

Has anyone used P&L on a project? If so, how did it do? Coverage? Smoothness of coats? Drips? etc. I am used to Sherwin Williams stuff, but fell in love with Benjamin Moore quality when helping friends paint their house. I am hesitant to try another paint brand after seeing how awesome Benjamin Moore is, but if the P&L is just as good, it would definitely save me $$.

Has anyone had P&L colors made into BM paints? If so, how well did the color translate?

Re: quality of Pratt & Lambert paint?

  • I'm an Interior Designer and paint frequently. I highly recommend P&L paint. They have low-no VOCs = very little smell & more healthy air, excellent quality and usually one coat coverage. I do recommend applying a coat of primer before using any brand of paint if it's been over a year since the wall was last painted. Primer helps even out the wall, seal cracks, provide a barrier between the paint and the wall so the paint doesn't get sucked into the wall but stays on the wall. Primer acts as an adhesive between the wall and the paint. I usually discourage clients from using the 2-in-1 primer/paint because they are two separate formulas that do two different jobs.  Have fun painting: )
  • Oh, and most places have the ability to use any color chip from any brand to make up the formula. It's computer based & should work to cross color brand to base brand.  Also, you can even take in a pillowcase, towel, potholder, etc. and use that color to computer generate your paint color formula. Technology has met the design world & it's quite exciting: )
