Question about Parvo and a new puppy
We had a puppy a few months ago with Parvo and had to give her up (loooong story and if you really want to know PM me). We (my husband and I) really want to bring a dog into our home for the long haul. My question is this: i understand parvo is the beast that never dies...lives in the grass forever? Can I bring a puppy into my home considering we had a parvo puppy just a few months ago? We cleaned the inside and disinfected as best as possible BUT she did go on the lawn, if we kept the new puppy off the lawn until she had all of her shots would that suffice. can anyone answer this for me?
Re: Question about Parvo and a new puppy
Parvo can live atleast a year, so no puppies or unvacinated dogs in your house or yard for at least a year. No exceptions unless you want to risk your new dog's health.
(I am a vet tech and know how bad parvo can be and how easily it is spread)
I'm not a vet tech like PP, but I've heard the 'virus can live a year' thing too. I used to work in a vet's office, and currently volunteer at a shelter. Both places I've heard the same thing. I would call your vet and ask their opinion. It's a deadly virus, don't want it to take the chance if you're not sure!
