Need recs for a good color to brighten up small living room?

I'm moving into a new home and the living room doesn't have a lot of light. Right now it's a neutral beige color. I am looking for a color to brighten it up. Thanks for your recommendations!

  • A light color will help brighten your space.  I have a light green in my living room and kitchen and a very light blue in my DD's nursery and they both lighten up the space.  GL!

  • I know this doesn't sound bright, but we painted our living room "Cement Gray" by Benjamin Moore. It is just a light gray.  Of course, when I told my mother we painted our LR gray, she said, "GRAYY??"  She still doesn't get it, even after having seen it.  Everything in her house is beige.

Gray is just as neutral as beige and, in my opinion, is brighter.  Fresh and cool.

  • Take a long hard look at the walls.  If the walls are not too banged up, pick your favorite color and up the sheen to a satin from a matte.  Increasing the sheen, increases the relectivity of a paint.  You have to take a long look at the walls because higher sheens will show more imprefections in a wall.

  • If you could find the right warm-ish yellow, that could look pretty w/a yellow/gray palette.
  • as PP said, we changed from beige to a light grey, and its way nicer. Its brighter and more up-to-date, IMO.

We did a higher sheen for DD's room (also grey, with a butter yellow accent wall) bc it was small, and it looks great!

You could always keep the walls the colour they are (or do them grey) and then do a bright accent wall with paint or wallpaper. This would depend on your taste/ability, as well as the floor colour and your furniture.
