Good places to live for a single guy in his early '30's?

My BIL moved back to PGH awhile ago, and is looking to rent. All of his friends here are married with kids (or moved away), so he needs to meet some new people (and a girl ;) He'd prefer an apartment that is new(ish) or updated recently. Must be somewhat convenient to the airport, because he travels all the time for work. Convenient to the S.Hills (where family is) would be a plus.

Any recs for neighborhoods? Specific building recs would be a plus.

Shadyside popped into my head, but it's kind of a pain to get to the airport from there. He looked in Mt. Lebo but said that the apartments were all beat up.

Thanks.

Jen

  • The Strip District or Heinz Lofts?
  • south side (there are a handful of loft buildings, if that's what he's looking for)

  • Mt. Washington.  There are some super swank places there!

  • My single work friend lives on the north side in an updated apartment on Western Ave I think.  He bikes to work (in town) and it is pretty easy to get onto the parkway from the northside.
  • Ditto everybody else - Allegheny West, Mexican War Streets or North Shore on the North Side, Strip District or Mt. Washington.  Mt. Washington is probably the easiest to get to the airport from, because of the back roads coming off the hillside onto 51 and 279.

  • Lawrenceville? Easy to his the 40th street bridge and onto 28 to head out to the airport.

  • My cousin-in-law lives in Pennsbury, a condo community in Robinson. He loves it!  They have a bar and a pool.  There seems to be quite a social scene for the late 20s and early 30s single crowd.
