I was lurking on SB and they had a post about what makes you feel old. Now I am curious... Let's hear it!!!
Re: Snarky Brides
- When I don't get carded.
- When I sit in a position too long, and then I stand up and something is asleep/ cramped/ etc. and I have to hobble a few steps to work out the kinks.
- Being called "ma'am."
- Going to concerts and feeling like we're surrounded by babies.
- Being more excited by the idea of staying home on a weekend night than the idea of going out.
- Finding myself knitting on a Friday night
- When my achy body cracks and pops when I move
- When my younger sister doesn't know what shows/songs/celebrities I'm talking about
- Along with that, when I watch an old favorite movie of mine and realize how terrible the acting/production value was :-(
- finding a gray hair on my 22nd birthday!
- being married
- being excited to have kids
-wanting to stay home than go out
-Having a Masters degree
-Being called Professor
-seeing teenagers at the mall in packs
-Watching an unmarried couple grope each other
-not being able to do half the things I once could (use to train in dance...hahaha...not anymore)
- I sit with the youngest kids in our office (16 and 19) and they make me feel so old when they talk! "I'm on Twitter! Me too!" I have been on twitter for 3 years, you know, when it was just starting out... I am only 25!
- My bridesmaids just turned 13 & 16... I remember them being babies and babysitting!
- When I see things on Facebook and I am like, really?! and I roll my eyes. Then I realize I am just like my mom.
-Being called ma'am
-seeing teens in the mall and realizing I can no longer relate to them
-remembering the time when almost no one had a computer (I didn't have one until college and we had TYPING classes in high school) or a cell phone
-when I was a teen there was no such thing as Facebook or Twitter (I STILL don't know what that is)....because no one had computers or the internet, so bullying came in the form of hang up phone calls
-getting excited about a new refrigerator and washer/dryer (when we moved into our new house back in Dec.)
- having to yell at kids on my street for doing stuff I use to do
-not being able to say to my students "i was JUST in your shoes" now it being 7 years out!
However I am about to be 30 in march and I say bring it on...I still get carded EVERYWHERE, i get asked all the time at my job if Im a student, and Me and H are usually out doing crazy things still...so for the most part I still feel 21 ha.
Seeing pins on Pinterest of toys, shows, etc. I had growing up
Not knowing who new trends, celebs, bands, etc. are.
Not being able to drink like I used to.
Preferring to stay in vs. going out.
Thinking that staying out until 1 is late!
I actually usually feel the opposite in that people think I'm much younger than I am. Not only do I get carded, but sometimes I have to fill out those forms stating they carded me and I showed them ID stating I'm 21+. Basically saying they don't believe I'm over 21 and my ID is fake. Or having to convince store associates I'm over 18 so I can buy the unrated versions of movies or fill out giveaway forms. It's crazy, I'm 27!!
This--I HATE THIS...apparently I look 12...literally the wed. before my wedding....
Random Stranger: "you're getting married this weekend, but your so young, you look about 12..."
Mom: "She's 23.."
Me: Nods...
Stranger: "Oh...well you don't look it..."
Thanks lady...
This. All of this.
Typing class, yes. I also remember being taught that you should type two spaces after any punctuation. I was reading tips on writing entrance essays for getting an MBA (H is applying *crossing fingers for him!*) and they said that is no longer applicable. What?
I learned that in HS, in typing class.
i learned the two spaces after a period in my high school typing class also. i still do it :-P
i remember when you had to have a college email to join facebook (when i was in college), and it was the cool new thing and we were all like, "pfftt... that is no where near as awesome as myspace..." haha
i didn't really feel old until recently. i used to LOVE shopping at Plato's closet in college, i had a friend that worked there that would hook me up with discount cards and stuff. anyway, i found one in the town hubby and i just moved to and was all excited so i went to check it out and o...m....g.... i was TOTALLY out of my element. i looked at those kids working there and thought, "how old are you?!" everything was sized in odd numbers (instead of womens sizes in even numbers) and everything in there was juniors type stuff, and not appropriate for anyone over the age of 21. lol
i don't think i'm old, and i don't hardly consider myself an 'adult' (even though i bought a house myself, am financially responsible, have a great job, am married, have kept my dog alive for 6 years, etc), but that one stop made me feel super old. (i'll be 28 in two weeks, btw)
My BFP Chart Danger Love Blog
My two biggest things are seeing kids I used to babysit on facebook celebrating life events like 18th birthdays or starting college, and the fact that we own a house. Makes me feel ooold!
- seeing how big my siblings get everytime I see them and then finding out what grade they will be in this year. Its crazy how fast they grow up
- always wanting to sit at home and 'relax' everyday after work when I should be going to dinner with my girls more often
I feel like a bad friend but I am such a home body now. And I dont wanna spend the money. Wow that makes me feel old!
- being married makes me feel kinda old
- about to turn 26. that makes me feel old LOL
- I cant stand to listen to the radio because all of the music is CRAP!!! (except a lot of country songs, there are good ones) and stuff like Adele etc, I like that on the radio! Just not the rap crap and the songs about stuff that makes NO sense.

Call Me Mrs.Foster Blog
- When I don't get carded
- When I would rather stay in than go out
- When I am ready for bed at 9 and actually make it to bed before 10:30
- Being almost 2 years older than DH (20 months)
I relate to a lot of these =]
Big ones are going to bed at 9pm every night, not being able to stay "out" past midnight and having my hangover last for 2 days instead of 1 morning, having my IT bands tighten up and make my knees really sore after sitting & watching a movie in the theater for a couple hours.
Also, I feel like I always want to revert to the default "oh, you're pregnant? that's a big 'oops'.." - you know, like assuming it was an accident like you did when someone was in their teens/early 20s/unwed, etc. Now most people intended it to happen, but in my mind the first thought still hasn't changed accordingly!
Seeing kids that I know are in college at work, then seeing that their DOB is in the 1990s.
I guess I'm getting old! I'll be 28 in February.
The first time I ever felt old was when I was about 25 and I went to the dentist for some work. I got the bill, and the first thing I thought was, I'll call my dad to let him know how expensive this will be, because he'll pay. Then I realized that I was responsible for this bill, not my dad. It was many years ago, I just remember thinking, "oh sh** I'm an adult, my dad doesn't pay my bills anymore."
AND this:
I didn't send my first email until my freshman year in college and got my first cell phone when I was out of college, working at my first job in Chicago.
When people who I went to high school with are posting pictures of their kids in junior high and high school.
This has become a HUGE adjustment for me lately!!
Love reading through these! I can relate to a lot of them.
For me..things that make me feel old
- That my brother has 2 kids
- that the kids I used to babysit (as BABIES) are in highschool or graduating highschool
- that H and I watch wheel of fortune and jeopardy
- that I am becoming friends with my cousins (not a bad thing...but they are 10 years older so I never really had a relationship with them growing up).
- That we moved to the suburbs
- That we are usually in bed before 10pm
- That I can count the number of times on one hand that we have been to bar in the past year...when I used to go out every weekend when I was single.
- That I know more married people then non-married people now
My Blog:Through My Eyes
i feel old when i watch some of the things my niece and other kids get away with and i think to myself "if i did that when i was a kid my mom would spanked my but"
when i find myself using my mothers phrases
i also apparently look much younger than i am. last week i went to one of thoes guess my age things at an amusement park and she looked at me and looked at me and finally said 20. I told her no in 28 and she said to me really? i thought i was guessing to old.
sigh
