So save money we would like to DIY some of the renovations. We would like to switch out the tiles in the kitchen to hardwood or to a hardwood looking tile. It currently is a "blah" white. Do you think it will be possible to hire out the part of removing the old tiles and we do the installation of the new one? Ive read some blogs and it appears that the removal process is the hardest part and just looking at it, I don't think we can handle that ourselves. I am handy but that seems to much for me, and DH is not handy at all.

Also, anyone can give me some estimates with we hire out the whole floor remodel?? The kitchen is about 20 x 15 (maybe a little less). Thanks!!!!

  • Demo is not very technical and that is why a lot of people DIY.  Installation is technical and that is why a lot of people do not DIY.  Estimates will vary widely depending on your area and the materials you choose.
  • I have to agree with previous poster on this one.  Taking out the old tile is just hard labor.  Installing a new flooring, I'd want done by a pro.
