Dog with stomach issues

One of our dogs (1 1/2 y.o.) has stomach problems. She has been seen by vets and the solutions have been prescription meds. Pepcid and Carafate for stomach acid and ulcers. We also use a digestive enzyme. I would like to try something holistic to treat and prevent as opposed to medication. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Re: Dog with stomach issues

  • I don't have any holistic suggestion.

I just wanted to add that my 9 year old Boston Terrier has stomach issues.  It wasn't diagnosed until recently.  She has been a brand new dog once we started the daily pepcid.  Her energy has bounced back and she doesn't get sick anymore.  I don't typically like taking medicine but the pepcid has made an amazing difference.

Prior to being diagnosed, we would control her diet with sensitive stomach dog food and bland treats.

  • what stomach issues is she having? how long has this been going on. what are you feeding?

  • I would do a google search for a holistic Vet clinic in your area. They would be more qualified to suggest diet changes, and to offer suggestions on what type of supplements would work best.
  • I'm also wondering what sort of digestive issues she's having, what you're feeding her, and does she get any treats. We had horrible digestive issues in both of our puppies and after months of vet visits, changing diets, and the saddest puppies around- we finally narrowed it down to rawhide bones. As soon as we took them off the bones all our problems became a thing of the past.

  • The stomach issue is not food related it is medical.  She has had the million dollar work-up.  It is proton pump disorder.

Thank you for Holistic vet suggestion, I do not know why I did not think of that.

There are some well regarded ones on the West coast.  I am going to have our vet here send her chart to whom ever we decide upon.  We may have to have some additional labs run but at least we do not have to fly across the country.

    Thanks!
