Need your creativity for our new kitchen

We're in the process of buying a house. It is not a fixer upper but there are plenty of things we have to do to it when we move in and a complete kitchen renovation is not one of them. However, I have had these same cupboards in every house I've ever lived in since childhood (a total of 5). Ok well maybe not exactly the cupboards but all were pretty similar. I'm ready for something new but don't want to spend a ton of money right now. Anyhow what would you do to update this look without getting all new cupboards.

  • What if you changed out some of the cabinet doors to decorative glass doors?  I'm sure you can go to Home Depot/Lowes with one of the doors and match the stain to some of their custom cabinets.

Of course, adding hardware would add some character.  Good luck!

i would add hardware.  We had orange oak cabinets and did the rustoleum cabinet transformation and painted them.  We did black and then got a lighter granite.  A lot of time, but not very hard and only a couple of hundred bucks to totally revamp the kitchen cabinets.

  • You could hire a refacing company for a completely different look that is considerably more affordable than putting in new cabinets.

The cabinets are nice, but too light for my taste.  I'd stain them a rich dark shade of cherry.  Maybe add some silver-tone hardware to give them some dimension.

  • The house we're moving in to is a fixer upper but basically has those same cabinets. I want to replace them eventually but for now, I'm going to paint the bottoms a dark glossy red and have Hubby take the top ones down and replace them with shelves to help open the room.

So that is my thought: paint them a stand-out color, consider taking the doors off the uppers to open them up? Maybe add nice hardware to the bottoms?
