First day on the ring

So, after obgyn and regular doc final choices, Nuva ring it is.

Today is day one. After all the hours of research I did on pro's con's etc. the ring was actually easier to insert than I assumed it would be. The package says to just pinch the sides and insert, but it is kind of hard to hold the sides in and insert it so I did what a fellow user suggested and put it in to the best of my ability and then used a tampon to get it to the correct spot. Totally worked.

Also users say it falls out, well mine has not so far. Then again I have been sitting at work for the majority of the day. I haven't felt any pain or been uncomfortable either.

Lets just hope the depression, weight gain, hair loss, and anxiety do not become symptoms in these first few months!!

Re: First day on the ring

  • I used it for 10 yrs and had very few side effects from it. I thought it caused weight gain but I went off of it several months ago and didn't lose any weight. My rarely fell out, like once. The dr. said that can happen at the end of the cycle. It did wonders for my monthly cycle too, made it almost none existant.

  • My sister-in-law were talking about this and she wanted me to try it and then tell her how it was before she went on it. I switched to the Nuvaring 4 months ago because I am terrible about remembering to take my BC pills (NOT a risk I want to take now) and I love it! I actually didn't gain any weight when I went on it. Come to think of it, I haven't had any side effects, unlike when I was on the pill and gained weight, was nauseous, and had TERRIBLE mood swings. I hope you don't either!

  • Possible TMI alert:

The NR worked GREAT for me until I started having almost-uncontrollable diarrhea.  It was awful!  The progesterone in the NR must have caused my GI muscles to relax and I had horrible problems.  It stopped about 2-3 weeks after I got off NR. I really hope this doesn't happen to you!

  • Wow geeze ladies!  And yes I hope those things don't happen to me either! I am glad you all had 99 % satisfaction with it though. Very reassuring for me :)

Thank you very much! its day 3 and all is good :)

  • I have been on the ring over 5 years and have never had a bad side effect from it. I've also never had it fall out. I love the convenience of not having to remember the pill, especially since I travel fairly frequently. It's one less thing to remember!
  • I'm the only person I know who had a bad experience with Nuva Ring, but I was on it for 6 months, and by the end, I couldn't bear it anymore. It made me crazy (anxious and irritable) and gave me migraines. For me, the first month or so was fine, but slowly, the side effects started piling on and getting worse.
    Life is good today.
  • I have been on Nuva Ring off and on for about 8 years (off because of lack of insurance). I have not had it fall out unless things get a lil rough in the bedroom. If that does happen it is no big deal. You will just rinse it off and stick it back up there. It seems to help with my mild depression which is a nice bonus. I have been a big girl for quite a while so I cannot confirm or deny if the Ring was the culprit. All in all I love it! I am not a pill person so this was a fool proof method to make sure we don't have kids before we are ready.
