Training cats

I'm at a loss as to how to get my little over 1 year old cat to stop misbehaving. I understand he's still a kitten and there's only so much you can do but he doesn't listen at all and he's driving H and I bonkers. Any advice?

Re: Training cats

  • omg what the freak? Sorry my work comp went haywire... Ill try and delete those asap! But anywho... we use a squirt bottle.. the vet said its ok as long as the person using it isn't abusing it. So just spray their butt or back end, not their face or font. And only when they do bad.. obviously...

And if it gets them really wet then we help dry them off so they don't think we hate them :( It worked though :)

  • What is kitty doing exactly?

The squirt bottle only let's ours know she is being annoying/ bad. And using this method she will only stop temporarily. A loud sudden noise (can of rocks or pennies) will startle them and make a cat stop (we haven't tried this yet).

What worked best for our cat is keeping her on a scedual (when we wake up, feelings, play, attention, etc.) and training her what to do (with much patience) like a daog. She is on the kitchen counter I would tell her down firmly and physically place her on the ground. Then it got to the point of just me saying it. Now when she is up someplace doing something she shouldn't we tell her to stop and down. Works 90% of the time. She is still a bit of a rebel.

  • He jumps up on EVERYTHING. The kitchen counters, our TV stand, the table, the window sills. Everything. He also messes with our other cat, and I understand he just wants to play and our older cat will let him get it out of his system for a little while but then she has enough and poor Greyson doesn't get the hint. We literally have to pull them off of each other at least once a day because he doesn't understand.

We've tried the spray bottle, we've tried clapping (for the loud noise) and saying no. We've tried taking him off of the counters and tables and such and holding him there and saying no and then setting him down but nothing seems to work.
